I saw this very cool AV at the SEMA show in Vegas last week. The cladding was painted with a flat black paint and was extended up over the fenders. I'm thinking of doing this to mine as I F'ed up one on my panels trying to get some goo off it with bug and tar remover. Bad idea. Enjoy the pix.

That is Truckin's SUV Magazine's Project AV.

Very cool!

Hi ItSAN - Welcome to the club

You might want to check out Over Wheel cladding thread - At the end of the thread is some info about painting the hump and a link to a body shop in TX that did this work to an AV.

Now that's sweet! Yellow and black give good contrast.

Now add some black stripes and waht do you have? A bumblebee! >:D Just kidding...

That's the first thing I thought of when I saw that pic - Is that paint or did somebody finally make a fender flare? ?(Yes, I look at the pictures before I read) Oh, well. ?It is a nice color combo.

jnspur - I really think someone is making a plastic part to go over the hump. I have seen AV's with this that don't look painted, but have not been able to find out who makes the part. :(

i want mine with that exact profile...dang mod >:D, even with christmas coming up, that booger just wont leave me alone, hehe.... ;)

This Av is featured in the December 2002 edition of Truckin' Magazine...like Goo said, it's Truckin's sister mag Truckin' SUV's project.

Here are the highlights:

  • [*Fabtech 6" lift kit]
    [*17x35 BF Goodrich Mud-Terrain T/A tires]
[*17x9.5-inch Center Line Corona billet wheels]
[*Westin Automotive Platinum Series step bars]
[*Custom-fabricated front prerunner brushguard by R.W. Automotive in Sylmar, CA]
[*Cladding and pseudo-cladding above wheels painted satin black]

If you do a search on "painted cladding" you'll come up with many hits. You might check also in the Accessories and Modifications area also.
But to answer your question pretty quickly...it depends.
It depends on what you want done. You can have you cladding painted for as little as $1,000 without having the texture taken out. If you want the texture taken out it's going to cost you anywhere from $1,600 to $3,000+. It also depends on how much of your cladding you want painted, most do lower cladding and sail pannels and saddle lids, not the cargo cover. There is also a place that will sell you pre-painted cladding for you to replace yours with (you send the cladding you took off back to them).
But do a search on painted cladding. I've been thinking about this too...I think it looks too cool!

The pre-runner style brush-guard is a custom fab'd item built by Ron Weaver of R.W. Automotive in Sylmar, CA. I don't have an address or phone number for him.
