Your custom built roof rack

Perfect thanks...

I was thinking about doing just that but wondered how it would fit in there, now I know..

I am going to build one very similar to this!! I will use a set of mounts that I can buy from a company though to mount it similar to that but I will know it can hold the tire and everything up and will have 6 mounting locations to improve the strength. Mine will be very similar except larger, and with round tubing. I will be mounting lights all around and have an angled plate on the front instead of nothing there to cover that gap. I will have tie downs to mount a full size spare tire on the top as well. Mine I measured out to be 54" wide and 60" long so it is long enough to mount 50" bars on there and I can put it behind the cab lights and still have those visible. I will also have side and rear lights so that I can really light up the road

Did you not have a factory luggage rack?

No I don't, but need one once in a great while and would like to take it off when not using it..

This one measured out final of 50" x 60". I'm 215lbs and can sit in the rack without flex, lol. The 50" curved light bar on the truck will be moved into the empty space in front. It was offset top from bottom for that reason and a 40" bar will be added to the rear.

No, never had a factory rack or sunroof on this truck, but always wanted both, lol.

I like that basket oxsign  (y) I must've forgot to update this.

I haven't done a whole lot to get the back of it finished, I just started work again though so I should be able to start working on it again soon. Right now it has the factory rails bolted inside of it so it so I can still get the tent up there.

Dude that's a bad ass custom rack! The best I've seen so far, what was your cost on that?

So far all the parts I was able to get out of scrap here at work so I haven't really spent anything besides the light bar, I have been toying with getting rid of the Yakima setup on my bed panels and building a new, lower profile rack that will match the one on the roof. At that point I'm probably going to have to buy a full sheet of floor plate and be looking at around 150 in material, which is roughly what I would have paid for the one on the roof.

I really like that rack, Wyotonka. The low profile & how it curves with the roof in front & gives you an easy light bar mount. I assume it has a support of some kind across the back too but is tough to see in the pics.

Thanks  I have a 50" light bar for the back, just haven't put it in yet because there are some mods I want to do to it first.  >:D The rack has tabs that go to the factory roof rail holes so it is really sturdy. I don't have pics of it on this rack but it is way more secure with my roof tent than the factory rack was alone. I just don't put it up there much anymore because it's easier to put it on the tonneaus now  >:D. I have lab on making new cross rails, just haven't decided what I want to use yet. Right now I have the factory rails and crossbars bolted on top of the racks tabs and it actually works really well.

Here it is on my factory rails.

Cool setup. I just can't see how I'd be able to climb out of the tent without killing myself after a few beers.
I have used a roof rack to carry paddleboards & would love the curved light bar. Maybe use a roof pack on it too.

Thanks  Hoping to get it out of storage for a camping trip soon and put the other light bar on the back. I am beginning to think that a bed tent is in order too  (y)

I scored a bed tent from EBay a couple weeks ago. Haven't had descent enough weather yet to put it on the truck. But looks almost brand new & got a great price on it.
BTW, I didn't use the paddleboard rack at all last year. I picked up an inflatable SUP & love how durable it is....not to mention how small it packs up.

Surf utility, my rear rack is mounted using the 3 screws the are in the hand grip. I remove the grip, install the rack. Front rack is screwed into the roof using Thule's bracket & nutserts. When the rack isn't on the truck, Thule's bracket has a small plastic cap that snaps in place over it.

Like your Rack Bud, Thanks for sharing!  Any Full pics after the completion? painted and all or with a tire mounted up there???
