Z66 Suspension - What Is Different?

The Z66 package consists of the following "Traction control, limited-slip differential, high-capacity air cleaner , rubber floormats, upgraded suspension, load-leveling rear suspension, 265/70R17 tires".

I now understand the shock issue but are the spring rates or bushings different than the base? Sway bars different?

Is the air cleaner different too than a base or the housing?

Trying to understand the options and differences.

I believe that jackalanche found that we all have the same stock air cleaner and the differential is locking.

 
I believe the Bilsteins play a big role in the ride of the Z71 for obvious reasons....the suspension setup in general is designed to be more rigid since it's supposed to go offroad....thus more of a firm ride..... :B:
 
I drove a z-66 before I bought my z-71, and in the short time I had it, I could sense a softer ride in the z-66.
I would assume (but you know what happends when we do that... :rolleyes: ) that spring rates, bushing, and sway bars would be slightly different in the z-71, more geared toward off-road and as NJAV put it so well, to be more rigid ;D ;D
 
Can some descrive how the load leveling suspension works? Is there an on board compressor or hyd. pump?
Is it only on the rear?

There is a thread in here on how it works...try a search for it...but basically the consensus is that the shocks have some sort of thingy that when they are compressed allows some gas to go to the other side to help jack it back up...this is why it only works when driving since the bumps make it jack up...... IMO
 
The Z-66 has Bilstein shocks in the front and Sachs-Boge shocks in the back that provide the self-leveling effect that has been described in earlier posts. The Bilsteins do not have this feature so the self-leveling is only in the back. As YGMN said there are some other posts on this that you can do a search for and get a little bit more info. ;D
 
Are the rear springs , t-bars up front, sway bars, or the bushings different over a base suspension?

Are thes different than a suburban too?

Looking for alternates for junk yard searching to do some "playing".
