I'm already "running out of shock" with my stock (non-Z71) shocks on dirt roads in VT. ? Would any of you with a Z71 happen to know what model Bilsteins you have? ?Any idea if the springs are different from the stock springs? ?Dal Slabough suspects the springs are the same for all the 1500s. ?I'm also still interested in buying take-off Bilsteins from someone who's swapped.

Thanks,

I am not sure which model the Z71 uses - you might try calling them at 858/386-5900.

Thanks guys. I spoke with Bilstein in CA and they told me a couple of interesting things:

1) The Bilsteins developed for the Avalanche are part of a GM specific contract and are only available through GM dealers

2) They've spec'd the BE 6500-HO (same as for 02 Suburban) for the Avalanche front shocks (as their aftermarket model) but are still in R&D for the rear shocks, which they think might be ready within the next two months

The damping on the aftermarket Bilsteins is apparently firmer than the GM spec units.

I can't find a 5700 series shock on their web site which makes me wonder if that's a series developed specifically for GM.

Called Dal Slabough (site sponsor) and according to the parts info. GM apparently offers only Delco shocks under part #s for the Avalanche. But that must be wrong because folks have been having their defective front Bilsteins (bad bushing is it?) replaced under warranty.

Anyone have a clue as to the part numbers for the rear shocks? My front Bilstein 6500s just arrived yesterday and now I need the rear (GM spec) units.

Thanks for the help.
