New member here.. from south Florida.  I recently picked up a 2003 avalanche, which needed some work. Recently replaced the water pump and coolant overflow tank. Picked it up pretty cheap. Very happy with it.  😊 would post a pic if I knew how to haha..

I just purchased a 2006 Avalanche this weekend.  Engine runs great, transmission works well.  Needs a few cosmetic fixes but overall very happy with my purchase.  Had my mechanic look it over and he told me it was a great buy.  This forum has already helped me with a few of the fixes such as the tailgate handle fix.  Thanks all!  :B:

I have gotten a lot of great information from the form. I thought it would be great to let everyone know that I have already been able to fix a problem I was having with the ac going to defrost.

Hey everyone, looks like I found a home to post about my 2005 2500 avalanche!  Iím getting into this overlanding fun, and I have another truck which is a 2007 frontier that I take for overland adventures.  The avalanche stays home and does the heavy work like towing.

2nd post here.   Down in south Texas.  Don't have an avalanche yet, just working on my research first.  I currently drive a 02 Silverado reg cab with a 4.8 and a FIVE SPEED MANual transmission, 2WD, and realize I will eventually want a four door.  I will only drive manual transmissions and whatever I get I will have to swap one in.  Crew cab pickup beds are too small, that's out.  Its either keep my pickup and get a Tahoe, or get an avalanche as an only vehicle.  I like my handling and my only problem with the avalanche is how it is rated as so much heavier (500 pounds), then a crew cab or a Tahoe even though it has a smaller wheelbase.   I have spent a lot of time learning about my Silverado.  Then about a Tahoe, and hope to bring some of that cross platform info here, and learn a little more to help in my decision.   Thanks.

:welcome: arrived.  I love your love of manuals.   . There is at least one member here, though he hasn't been around for a while, who has swapped in a manual.  The difference is due to the AV being based on a suburban platform vs. pickup platform.  While the bed is in fact smaller, it can be increased to a long bed simply by dropping the midgate.

welcome adriver,
frito is correct in that the AV is built on the Suburban frame and suspension so I think you are mistaken in that the AV has a longer wheelbase and overall length compared to a Tahoe or a two door short bed pickup etc. If I remember correctly the Suburban is 23" longer then a Tahoe. The AV has a 5'.3" bed but with midgate down and rear seats folded you have a 8'.1" bed. Also the plastic sail panels have a metal skeleton inside them to provide strength with the Suburban rear roof missing, that can add weight.
Good luck with your search for a perfect for you vehicle.

I haven't searched here yet, but I know I've seen a 2500 with a 6spd.  There was a lot done to it overall, and was a real beauty and a beast.

I'm not sure where I got that from.  Yeah you're right, thanks.   Looks like I'm definitely going to have to flush the bumper if I want to get every spare inch to fit it in the garage.   Not sure how to post a picture, nor did I search to see if I could find it here.

Hello,

Just joined the forum.  I have a 2004 Avalanche 2500.  Bought it as a back up towing vehicle, but it is a really nice ride, so we will see how that goes!

Regards,
