I was looking under my Avy today, and noticed I don't have the coil over shocks. Looked up AutoZone's spec sheets and my front end is set up more like the 4WD, This something to do with the towing package or are they all like this? I'll have to get some pictures up here, but there's these rubber looking mounts that are rotting away. Haven't been to find out what their called.

I don't think that any 2004 Avalanches have coil over shocks......

Torsion bar suspension was standard on all 2002- 2006 avys...

Rubber looking things are probably the bump stops...
mine rotted away... and they are important as it is last resort for suspenion travel to prevent metal on metal contact....

I am trying to find them too...

While inspecting my brakes the other day I too noticed that mine are wearing, well practially worn, as well. I have an 04 z66 with 118k miles.

I am trying to find them too...

After you guys told me what they were, I found some with part numbers, but their for 20" rims. I figure with a few mods they might fit.

Bump Stop Number: 15161761
Kit Number: 12499481

Found this post off another site. These are not my pictures, but gives a clue on what to do.
Also found out that they are made of foam, their not even rubber. Supposely it gives a better cushion, but what a pain to have to replace them after only 100k miles.

here's the link just incase the pictures dont post.

I am not sure those are the correct parts. The stock parts are called jounce stops and act as part of the suspension, they are not just bump stops. They fit into a cup and just pull out and press in there are no bolts or even a place to put the bolt as shown on the ones on ebay.....

Those pics came out and show what I need....

Cannot have the plate but the rubber doohickey only....

I went to site and does not say where he got...

then I found this for old PN:
http://www.impalassforum.com/vBulletin/showthread.php?t=235712
says they are discontinued but has link to this:

http://www.rmsautoparts.com/proddetail.php?prod=15161761
place to buy them.....

15161761.jpg

I think...

But it says that they are out of stock. Someone else posted the part number a while back, it may have been Carnut.....I will go see if I can find the post and if he has a place to buy them.

I did rnu that PN on GM parts thingy... and says they have new PN for it but do not say what it is...

Why o why is this so hard?

I had my parts department try to look it up and they could not find it. I took them out and showed them the part that I wanted and they still did not know what to order.....

I found some that look like they will fit, but there for a Jeep. Give you an idea what they look like. I found them for $10 for a pair on another site. I am going to buy them and see how this works out.

I've also seen them go over the shock. Who knows, if they work, I'll post pictures. If not, I'll post pictures of my mistake...lol. I guess Chevy didnt think  no one would think about replacing them. I been all over trying to find them.

Sent email to RMS and he talked to GM and well they say they have superseded old part into 2 new parts.
one for 1/2-3/4 ton trucks.

No pic up yet as he just ran it by Gm rep.

I am taking the plunge!!!

WOW! I just did the very same thing and got this Email back from RMS less than a hour ago......

Good afternoon, Butch:

After going round and round with my GM rep (which I am sure you have been
doing the same to figure this out) we have determined that GM has
"superseded" these bumpers to two different part numbers based on the
"size" of the truck.  There are another set of lower control arm bumpers
attached to the frame that mess the parts books up as well. (We love GM
naming conventions)  At then end of all this research, my GM rep says
these are the correct bumpers for you:

15153958 - Bump Stop (1/2 - 3/4 Ton Full Size Truck)
http://www.rmsautoparts.com/proddetail.php?prod=15153958
It will take a day or so to get them in from GM.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can get for you?

OK, so you be the guinea pig, let us know if it is in fact the correct part and if your Avalanche has a better ride after installing them please.

Awesome, glad I didn't place that other order yet. Gonna call my dealer tomorrow and see if they have them in stock.

He will send me picture first...
then I will approve
He will ship
I will install and if all is OK I will send him picture and post up here..

I hope they are better then original.

PS his email to you was identical to mine.
I bet he cut and pasted

That sounds like a good plan. I am especially interested to see if you notice an improvement in your ride. I have read that they are a part of the suspension, not just a bump stop.

Well my originals disintegrated... so I forget what it rides like with them in..

I do notice I am missing them every time I go over speed bump and suspension bottoms out... CLANK!

Did you see the line in our email from RMS: "There are another set of lower control arm bumpers
attached to the frame that mess the parts books up as well".
I do not remember seeing that bump stop but if we have them shouldn't they keep the "clank" away?

I dunno...

I await pictures....
I told him they look like the one he does not have in stock

Hopefully next week the pics come

RMS called and he put picture up at link for new bump stop

15153958.jpg

They are hollow inside...

I say they look good and told him to ship them so I should get end of week hopefully.

did say they felt stiffer then the old style... which I think is a good thing
