Skid plate front diff. custom ?

Hi All, just installed a skid plate I made from a approx 20" x 23" piece of alum. this plate lays flat against the front diff.Actually the mating edges of the front Diff, as the diff sits about 1/4" below the two cross members where i have it bolted, my question is, do you believe this is OK, or should I place spacers between the plate and crossmembers to lower the plate, thanks for any Input BTW this is a 03 cladded 4x4
 
Spacers I would imaging the diff moves a little.
 
Hard to comment on it unless you add pictures...
 
I want to do something similar to this. I want to go from the round bumper support and then bolt them there, front crossmember, then grind on the rear crossmember and weld on some tabs and support brackets and then paint it all black and make it out of aluminum
