I believe Wiki is supposed to be looking to make plans for next year's Nationals since he did work on the ECRM and I THINK Conway will be helping...

Ya might ask Wiki about locations.

Thanks for the info Kim, will contact Wiki.

Hey I would vote for CO :) - see my post in the 4x4 section about the Avalanche Ranch

Biggie - I spent 20+ years of my life in IN and man of a good drunks in Indy - I am not sure there is that much out of the ordinary to offer for a National meet - maybe some face or air time with Bob & Tom - I have a connection there.

Hey blue, i checked out the Avalanche Ranch site, the easiest trail required 4wd, 30-31 inch tires, what are the 2wd Av'ers supposed to do there?

I vote for CO as well, I would love to see beautiful Colorado, and also would give me a chance to visit with you, blueruck, and Hilda, we didn't have enough time to visit at our Southern Regionals back in Aug-Sept. 2002 if 2004 Nationals are held in CO I will definitely try and plan to be there.

IMHO, the National & Regional meets should be located somewhere where there's an established local chapter. The importance of a local chapter will guarantee a certain level of attendance, will be able to help with advertising and local connections and will be close to home to help provide the random things that get forgot along the way.

With that in mind, my suggestions, in order are:
1. Texas (could do one day in Alamo, one in Houston, one in Dallas, etc.)
2. Arkansas
3. Chicago (could include a cruise to Detroit)

I say the location should have a bar or two...but I am biased that way.........LOL

At least someplace with a "Flying Saucer", Right?

If you do it in Texas, that would give me an excuse to come back here. I like the idea of rotating from location to location too. There's something different to do in each area for both 2 and 4 WD folks. No matter where you do it, it will be a long drive for someone, especially Skidd ;D.

Nothing against Arkansas (thanks for the plug mmdavidw), but here's my suggestion...drum roll...

Branson, Missouri--Defintely something for everybody there...including a bar or two, plenty of entertainment, shopping and places to see... (y)

I think it should go to the voters. Colorado is a beautiful place, never been there. If it is there, my Av and I will be there (y) (y) You can never plan to early!! What is another 2,000 or 3,000 quality time miles with the Av. Anybody going to help (Mdz66 is raising his hand)

Mdz66-thanks for your vote, come on folks....VOTE for COLORADO as the location for the 2004 national meet.

Here is another COLORADO vote for nationals, but I know that is no surprise ;D. Now it's just a matter of it being in Colorado Springs or Denver. I'd say Denver because I-70 is the only interstate in the mountains and that goes through Denver.

I like the idea of Branson because it has things to do but it is pretty small and I am not sure if there is much to do outside of town. But then again, I don't know much about that area.

Another vote for Colorado! Plenty of great scenery and challenging trails, especially in the San Juan Mts. :B:

I haven't been in Colorado since I was a kid, what is there for us 2WD folks to do? I used to live in Cheyenne and we made a lot of trips to Denver, but like I said that was 25+ years ago.

While I like the idea of a national meet, I think it will be very hard to pull off. The mangement screw ups are not the only reason the last national died. It is going to be hard to get enough people to drive that far and get a decent turnout. The 02 national had a lot of people on the list, but even before the problems, very few had truly committed and paid.

What do you think of a more conservative approach and try doing multi-regional meets. East of the Miss. and West of the Miss. That is not the demarc I suggest, just an example.

I totally agree that an active local chapter should exist. It will make all the difference in getting a good program together. I love Colorado and I am closer than many, but I probably would not go that far in that direction for a meet. I also do not think I would go to Texas in the summer, the only time a national would prossibly work.

I am not trying to rain on anyones parade, but I thought I would share my thoughts. I would guess that many share the same sentiment. Take it for what it is worth, 1 AVs opinion, but I thought it might help the planners.

Also, the planners need to understand what they are getting into. I just finished a 4 day camping meet with about 23 vehicles and 65 people. It was big for us, but small compared to what a national should be. It was a TON of work and planning to pull it off. I think it went reasonably well and people had fun, but it took a lot to get there. Anyone who takes on something like this needs to have a lot of extra time and a strong commitment to see it through.

I think Las Vegas would be a good place. Maybe get some big casino to help sponser the event...

I just spent 4 days up in the mountains driving the scenic passes, most of them were passable for passenger cars, there won't be any problems finding roads for 2wd av's, yet alot of these road had side roads for 4wd vehicles, and yet you still could keep within eyesite of the passenger car routes.
