The events in Volant seem to be starting earlier than past years.
I am tightening up the schedule some to get to Volant a little sooner.
I want to claim our parking spot in Volant before others do.

Like before, let's meet at The Apple Castle and go from there.
Arrive at The Apple Castle at your leisure.
The Apple Castle opens at 7:30.
We will depart The Apple Castle at 10:30.

Last year it was mentioned maybe we go somewhere different.
It looks like it is The Iron Bridge Inn this year.

james21

Bean_PA, Jenna, Kasch

I should be there.
I have a problem though, I can't drive 2 Avalanches simultaneously ???
I'm certainly up for a change of dinner venue.
Here are some considerations

We plan to attend.  Save me a donut.

I somehow lucked into both Avy Pizza and Christmas on Main Street falling on my off weekends!

We will be there!  :D :D

I?m down for a change in dinner venue if ya?ll wanna try something different. The two suggestions from Tom look equally good!

I did a scouting trip yesterday.

The restrooms at The Cheese House are once again operational.
They were out of service in June.

The road from The Cheese House to New Wilmington is closed.
It looked like a bridge repair.
The alternate route goes by The Apple Castle and will still take us on our "Circle Cruise."
If the road will still be closed on November 10, I will adjust our schedule swapping the times of Apple Castle and Cheese House.
Watch here for updates.
As of Oct 12, the road is now open.

The Iron Bridge Inn and Rachel's Road House do not take reservations.
I spoke to the hostess at The Iron Bridge Inn.
They cannot seat a party larger than 16 people.
A group of 16 or less should expect an hour wait.
So far it does not look like we will have more than 16 for dinner.
If we decide to go to the Iron Bridge Inn, I have found a scenic direct route from our parking spot in Volant right to the Iron Bridge Inn.
It is a nice 10 minute drive.

Our parking spot in Volant is starting to be overgrown with weeds.
The building there is for sale.

For now, the schedule is unchanged.
I will monitor replies here to see if I need to make a reservation at Tavern On The Square.

Opinions are always welcome.

Put me down as attending, might even bring the AV this year (y)

This is almost a Month away, have we decided on a dinner place?

No dinner decision yet.
I was talking with Toots Monday night about it.
I don't know if I should make a reservation at The Tavern On The Square, just to be safe.
Or take our chances waiting for a table at The Iron Bridge Inn.
It looks like we will have 12-14 people coming.

Can we beat the hour wait by calling in before we leave Volant telling we are in the way with so many?? telling we will be there with an eta?

I'm not sure I trust the word of a hostess to be the letter of the law. That being said, my opinion of her comments are below

Last year was the first time we all sat at one table. Every year prior we were at multiple tables. I don't see this as a detriment. Sitting in groups of 6 or 8 never bothered us before.

How on earth might she predict how busy they will be 9 weeks in advance? If there are only two other diners in the entire establishment do we still wait 1 hour to be seated? I'm calling B.S. on this one.

Add us to the list, providing they don't put us back on 6 days a week  . I usually try to schedule the 2nd Sat of November off as it's Volant weekend. Same as the normal 2nd Sat of Oct for Avy Pizza but sometimes work gets in the way.

Looking at the list right now, looks like multiple tables will be needed. Biggest group in a couple years.

That is almost like a reservation, so I don't think they will do that.
They did say we could try the "no wait" app on a smart phone.

I'm guessing she based that on a typical Saturday afternoon.

Sitting in several smaller groups I think would be OK with everyone.

If we arrive between 3:00 and 4:00, I expect we will beat much of the dinner crowd.
Also, no one is required to join the group for dinner.
Don't feel obligated.  If you would rather not wait, that is OK.

UPDATE
I have been told that the road is now open, so no change to the schedule.

Wow! This is shaping up to be a great one!!!

I?ve used the no wait app a few times with great success. I always Log in and grab a table when we leave our hotel or what have you to beat some of the wait in the restaraunt!

Rich, if you are in line behind me, there may not be any donuts left.  >:D
Glad to hear that you guys are coming.  (y)
