Any Ava Owners In Mass?

I just got back from a mini vacation in the mountains. We stayed in Conway and on the way home we went across the Kancamangus into Lincoln. The last mile or so of the Kancamangus is being worked on so there is no pavement. My clean truck got all messed up

At least it was at the end of the vacation.

Sounds like a nice trip, did you happen to scope out any restaurants and places for us to stop along the Kancamangus.

We need to make a plan, I'll be up that way on the 23rd and see what I can come up with.

But in the mean time any suggestions are welcome.

There are no restaurants, or anything for that matter, on the Kancamangus highway itself. It is a 32 mile scenic highway. There are a few scenic outlooks we can stop at and take pictures, streach our legs, whatever. If we are going to take route 16 up there then we will hit Conway before getting on the Kancamangus, there are lots of places to eat there. If we wait until we get off the Kancamangus then we will be in Lincoln. There is a restaurant there called The Common Man. It's pretty good, I've eaten there a few times. I think we will probably have to eat in Conway, if we wait until we get to Lincoln then its going to be late. There is another possibility depending on the time we leave, there is a place on route 16 in Ossipee called the Yankee Smokehouse. If you like smoked food this place is great. I try to get there at least once a year.

The only other thing we should mention here for those who have never been to Conway and the Kancamangus... Traffic getting onto the Kancamangus and also through Conway is terrible, specially during leaf peeping season.

For those who know the area, we went up on Wednesday and it took us close to an hour to get from the Kancamangus to North Conway, where we were staying.

Maybe some of you NH guys can help with this,
looking at the map I see a Lake Ossipee right off Rt 16. what I was thinking was that if we all packed a picnic lunch we could stop here for lunch, that is if there is a place for us to park by the lake,or NH_Mark suggested the Yankee Smokehouse. Their is a covered bridge in West Ossipee at Ossipee Village that might make for some nice AV photos. Spend an hour here then continue our trip, if we stop along the Kancamangus this might put us in Lincoln around dinner time. We'll still need to find a restaurant in Lincoln. Again I'll be in Conway and Lincoln this weekend and see what I can find.

I've only been to Lake Ossipee once and that was in a condo so I'm not familiar with anyplace we can go there. I am also not familiar with the covered bridge  Pretty useless huh.

What I do know is that if we decide to bring a picnic lunch then we can always find someplace to eat. I do know of a place on the left of route 16 that was a lake, I think it's silver lake?? You can see Mt. Chocura from there? I think there is a parking area that we can go to there but I am not positive.

It's been a while since I've been to Lake Ossipee, but last time I was there, there were spots for picnicking. Weather might be an issue, and the accessible parts of the lake aren't as close to Route 16 as it appears they are. I'm game if that's the consensus though.

There are also picnic spots at Lake Chocura and at White Ledge State Park, a little further up the road, as well as on the Kanc itself. Something to consider if picnicking is the choice.

As far as the covered bridge, if you're talking about the one I'm thinking of, it's closed to vehicular traffic. There is another covered bridge in Albany right off the Kanc. More than two Avs on it at a time might be stretching the weight limit, but the road it's on should be fairly empty, so we should be able to get some good pics without annoying people. There's also a covered bridge in Conway, but that one tends to get more traffic.

I guess we need to get a head count. If there's going to be more than 10 people or so on the trip, we may want to call ahead to make sure the restaurant(s) we choose is okay with a large herd of Av'ers descending on them all at once.

Oh, and I'm partial to Gordi's Fish & Steak House in Lincoln.

I think White Ledge State Park is the place I was thinking of too. Is that the place on the left heading up 16?

-Mark

Yeah, White Ledge is a small campground/picnic area between Lake Chocura and Conway. White Lake is the other state park, but you have to pay to use that one. White Ledge is free unless you're camping there.

Count me In

I guess the next step is to get the meetings page, to list the date and meet time so there can be a head count

It list a tony perroza as a contact
Not sure of his screen name
If anyone can dig it up forward him a message or
contact one of the bigwigs[chief] to help set it up

nh_mark: As far as I'm concerned, it's happening. I'll be at the Visitor's Center bright and early on the 28th. If I'm alone, so be it. :)

Capecruis8der: I sent gandolphxx a PM asking him what we can do about the MIA Tony Perroza and/or opening the NE chapter db so we can add the info for the cruise there.

Although I'm in favor of the scenic Kangamagangus trip

If we could entice more members to come and have a rally at a set location [maybe Hampton Beach]
Things should be quite by summers end and a lot of parking and visability and then go for a short cruise

I wouldn't want the many hours of driving to deter anyone

Opening it up to a New England chapter is a great idea

I'm up for the one that we've planned! I don't know about a hampton beach trip. Its not really a feasable cruise for a MA chapter club. And even a NE Chapter shouldn't include the Island, that's more of a Tri-State area.

I think you may be confusing Hampton beach just over the Ma/NH border with "The Hamptons" somwhere in NY or NJ?

If not then I am confused ???

I was talking about Hampton Beach NH
If you have never been there the go
it's a blast/ many miles of beach on one side
Stores, resturants, niteclubs, arcades, Etc,Etc
Babes on both sides

The northern cruise is fine with me
Just trying to draw more in

I know you were talking about Hampton NH, I think James21 may hve been talking about the other one.

I have been to Hampton beach many times.

I also don't care where we go as long as I'm driving my AV!!!

I'm still in, just getting back from my trip to Six Gun City, StoryLand, Old Man in the Mt. Indian Head and Clark's Trading Post
The only traffic we hit was in Conway, we were on the Kancamangus, Rt. 302(Twice),Rt. 16 in the Mts. Rt. 3 and Rt. 93. Traveled 447 Miles.

More Later, have to catch up on some posts.

Sounds like a fun trip. I was looking at your pics, very nice setup you have. Where did you get that 12V hitch adaptor? I was thinking of adding a 12V plug to my bed somewhere but with that I wouldn't have to.

-Mark

Hi Mark,
See this thread for more info on the 12v hitch plug.

Here's one picture of the AV from atop the look out tower at the Indian Head Resort.
