Is this the transmission oil cooler?

My 2004 EXT did.

RPO code: KNP Cooling System Trans, HD

First, an EXT is not an Avalanche......

Second, the description is HD cooling system, NOT auxiliary cooling system. It may be splitting hairs, but this is likely just additional tubes in the radiator to add additional cooling via the radiator, versus an added auxiliary cooler that is external to the radiator. As always, YMMV.  :p

Out of curiosity, I went out and had another look at mine.

Of course, an EXT is not an Avalanche, this I know.

On mine, the cooling lines come from the transmission and attach first to a connector on the passenger side of the radiator.

The line then continues out of the radiator toward the front of the truck where they enter a factory installed horizontal aux transmission cooler mounted in the area of the lower center of the radiator and a/c condenser.

These lines then return to the transmission along the passenger side of the engine bay.

In addition to the aux transmission cooler, my truck also has the aux engine oil cooler.

The engine oil cooler lines come from an adapter on the engine near the oil filter and go into and out of a set of connections on the back of the driver's side of the radiator.

There is no engine oil cooler out in the wind in front of the radiator.

There is a slender, vertically mounted cooler in front of the radiator on the driver's side which is the cooler for the power steering pump.

I have seen this same set up on several GM pick up trucks, but honestly, I have never looked for these on an Avalanche.

I know the engine bay on my brother's 2004 Avalanche is practically identical to my engine bay except for mine having a little more decorative engine cover plastic pieces.

Maybe they are the same, maybe not.

I wouldn't know.

Come to think of it, my 1999 Suburban had the very same transmission cooler set up from the factory.

Kind of makes you wonder ...

I might have to take a closer look when I see an Avalanche parked somewhere.

Whoever seriously gets bent out of shape at you for this Avvy vs. EXT business is one of THOSE people.

Different badging, different interior, same mechanicals. I got your back brah.
