Spare tire delete

Hey yall, my spare tire bracket that’s welded to the frame had started to get some holes. With the rest of my frame being solid, I’m wondering if I could laser out some 4140 mild steel plate and weld it in with a custom design. I don’t use my spare tire mount anyways, as I have 33x12.5s which won’t fit under my truck. How thick should I go? Is this a bad idea? Anyone else have this issue?

why do you need to weld in this plate? if you are removing the spare hoist stuff?

Also 4140 is not easy to weld and is high strength steel usually in round form.

Look for A36 steel

On the Green Booger, the spare tire bracket was rotted so bad I had to grind it off to get the spare tire (that had a rim so bad air leaked thru the rim).. I replaced the bracket / hoist (on Amazon < $40):

why do you need to weld in this plate? if you are removing the spare hoist stuff?

I think it would be pretty bad ass to laser out a custom plate and weld it in, I have no need to replace it with a new tire holder as I don’t keep the tire under the truck.

My hoist works, the frame bracket is rotting. I also have no need because a tire for my truck can’t fit under there.
