Hi all,

I think it is high time the Utah members had a cruise! My thoughts are to meet on Saturday, Sept 27th and drive to the Kennecott Copper Mine South view area via Butterfield Canyon. Here are some pics I took today.

Like I said I am thinking Saturday, Sept 27th. Maybe meet at 10:00 AM in front of the Smith's on 10600 S Redwood Road. We can either cruise from the SLC side up Butterfield Canyon and return the same way or we can return via Middle Canyon into Tooele and back to SLC. Either wat works just fine. I did the SLC to Tooele route in about 3 hours. The road is paved about half way up both canyons. The rest is dirt and rocks. It is passable in a car (a Chrysler 300M followed me up) but it is a fun road with loose dirt and rocks and plenty of sharp switchbacks. There is no danger of brush scratches if you watch were you are going. Let me know any idea's you may have and if you can plan to attend. Should be fun!

I know several people. A friend of mine used to work there but recently moved to California to work at the Borax mine. U.S. Borax is another of the operations owned by Kennecott's parent company.

Looks like a very beautiful place to cruise to!

Love to go, but it's still soccer season so Saturdays are tied up with that. A Sunday be better for me.

Can you post a map, or provide better directions. Looks like a ride that would be fun, but I don't know my way around there.

Just wanted to let everyone know that the cruise is still on. So far there will just be two of us (UtahAV and Planet Express) but it will be fun I'm sure! So lets hear it can anyone else attend?

Hi all,

Here is the plan for tomorrow. Meet at the Smith's at 10400 S. Redwood Rd at 10:00 AM. Redwood is under construction but it doesn't cause much of a problem. I previously wrote 10600 S. the correct address is 10400 S also known as the South Jordan Parkway. Let?s meet on the west side of the parking lot, just north of the McDonalds and gas station. We will meet for a few minutes and then head for Butterfield Canyon. We can stop for a minute at the mouth of the canyon if we like. After starting up the canyon there aren't many places to stop until the top. We will stop at the top of the canyon briefly and then continue up the side road to the Kennecott Copper mine overlook. Once on top we can decide whether to go home via Middle canyon into Tooele or head back down Butterfield Canyon. I don't mind either route. As I said before the Canyons are paved about halfway up and then go to dirt. It isn't too rough of a ride, just fun. Bring your binoculars or spotting scope for the Kennecott overlook as the view is fantastic. Right now it looks like two AV's for sure and probably on one more. See you all tomorrow.

Utah Av! did your meet happen? It looked like it was going to be a two truck meet. Don't be discouraged, if you stay with it they will come. Look forward to meeting you at WWII.

Hey, I went too, and after 4+ years at the base of the mine tailings in South Jordan, I had no idea this place existed.

Glad I wasn't chastised too much for bringing my WBH!

Thanks for the invite Utah_av!

Hi All,

I finally had a second to post the pics from our cruise on Sept 27th. We had 3 AV's attend; Planet Express, the_fu and UtahAV. We all had a good time. Unfortunately we missed another member by just a few minutes or we would have had 4 on the cruise. The leaves up Butterfield Canyon were beautiful. This has been a great year for fall colors in Utah. Anyway on to the pics!

P.S.
the_fu, We didn't mind your WBH AV, we like AV's that are nekkid!! ;D

Great Photos Utah. (y) Congrats on your first GTG. It looks like you had a good time and the landscape is beautiful! I can hardly wait to see it with my own eyes. ;)
T-minus 8 days and counting. ;D

It's been ages since I have been to the mine. I used to hangout in Copperton, and play basketball at the park.

I completely agree with you. (y) I hope to see your AV and several more at our next GTG. Lets hear some ideas and get something planned.

Do you have your amber DRL's yet? I'll be watching for you on the road.
