What don't you like about your Avalanche

I'm not happy with the pedal arrangement. I have short legs and frequently have bruises from hitting the ebrake on the side. Also, I have to really bend my leg to engage the ebrake.

I have seen a lot of post of people saying what they love about the rig but what are somethings you don't like and what have you done to change it?
My one thing that bugs me the most on my 04 is only the drivers door having a key. How much money do you save by not having a passenger key latch????? Other than not making the Z71 with a lift and bigger tires I am pretty happy with the rest of it.
The only real dislike I have with my 07 is the dash lighting. I have a hard time reading the guages during the day, so I just keep my headlights on.

I see I missed a necessary word or two. When I have my left leg out of the way of the gas & regular brake, the ebrake hits the side of my left shin.
Also, my seat is forward so I can reach the gas & brake pedals, so I really have to bend my leg to reach the ebrake.:cautious:

Methinks you need longer arms, not longer legs. :geek:

Regardless, I can relate, I had the same problem in my '78 GMC with a manual. The manual pedal took up a lot of room. Usually kept my foot placed under that pedal.

The ebrake on this avalanche doesn't work so the pedal is on the floor anyway, no problems now.

Funnily enough, I had to have 2" taken off the sleeves on my HS Letterman's Jacket.:sneaky:
All of my 3 bros are over 6' tall. My parents figured out I got all the "short" characteristics. I told them thanks for giving me "the short end of the stick."

Oh I can relate to that.
One of my fellow employees likes to drive “up on the wheel”, although only an inch shorter than me, the air ride seat is at max height, and seat full forward.
We share many pieces of equipment at work and everybody knows when Jason was driving a piece last.😂

I can relate too. I've always sat in seats with my butt forward (slouched) and the seat-back, if adjustable, sloped backwards, it's just the way I drive. Everyone I know drives with the seat-back in the full upright position. I feel this position pushes my top end over the top of the steering wheel and it hurts my back in a short time of driving.

Posted this in the wrong thread by accident.

The orientation of the blasted intermediate steering shaft relative to the spark plug wire so that every turn of the wheel chews through the wire insulation. :beating:

not on mine....
GOt pic?
Maybe wire is too long or short?

Its best to use oem wires, after lookin at rockauto oem are 9.2 inches but they also sell them up to +13 inches.

Ps if you still have the shields reuse them.

Here are a couple pictures. I upgraded to MSD 8 mm wires last time I changed the plugs. There are two different types of coils - round and square. Round is the is 9.2 inch wire. Square takes the 10.5 inch wire. When I changed the wires Initially ordered the 9.2 inch wire and it was too short so Ingot the 10.5 inch wire. They seem to be the perfect length.

I recall a few years back seeing a similar thread about the wires shaft chewing through the insulation. I didn’t save the original sleeves, at least I don’t think I did. I wish I did. Maybe I’ll tare through the garage to see if there’s an outside chance I just tossed them somewhere. I bet those sleeves are just for this issue.

Oh, and for the time being to verify this was the cause of my check engine light, I sprayed it with liquid electrical tape and then wrapped it in electrical tape. Sure enough, check engine light went off and it ran better. Gonna get a set of oem wires for it.

from the pic it looks like your plug boots are too long versus stock.

Now granted been a while since I looked at mine but the boot came out past heat shield and plug end about maybe 1/2" at most and then the wore could start bending upwards.

yours sticks out so far it has not option but to hit shaft.

Measure boot length versus stick ones if you kept them - I kept mine in case during next change a wire got damaged.

Rock auto baby:
10.5"

9.2"

I doubt I kept mine. I installed these MSD 8.5 mm wires and plugs in 2015. I need to replace all the wires to go back to OEM as I don’t think the systems would like having seven 8.5 mm wires and one 7 mm wire. The 10.5 is the correct length for my square coils. I do recall laying them next to the originals to check length after the first set I bought was too short.

I saw your picture last night Frito all I can say is YIKES.
I'm with what YGMN said, now there's nothing wrong with MSDs but sometimes OEM works best.
I bet the radio sounds better too.

The size difference is the insulation size not the wire size, a 7mm will work just fine in the bunch assuming it's in good shape and the same internally (resistance, graphite vs solid wire, spiral core, etc.) and if the resistance is similar per foot then the computer won't yell at you.

You can bandaid the steering column to cover the bolt. Maybe slice a piece of appropriate pvc pipe lengthwise and electrical tape it on? Likely would need a heat gun and patience to get it hot enough to open wide enough to slip it on and then close it up again. Can't say.
