Which Mobile1 filter ?

CHAS said:
I bought the oil now I need the right Mobile 1 filter for a 2004 5.3 thanks

I think you need the M1-104 if I remember correctly.

:B:

EDIT: the correct part number is M1-107.

The M1-206 might work, it looks like it might be for the 2500?! ???

Maybe all of you are right....but after talking to the Mobil 1 tech people, the actual "correct" Mobil 1 filter for the 2003-2005 is the M1-107. The 2002 had a longer filter (which fits the 2003-2005) and it carries part # M1-206.
All  8.1's uses the M1-111.
I did some research and summarized all the part #s under the previous post:

You can open that zip file and save the info to your desktop.

when i did the search on www.autozone.com for the correct filter it came up M1-107 also.  i just assumed since i used the M1-206 on the '02 i had there should be no changes.  it does fit my '04.

? ?okay Snoball, you are correct.? i went to the Auto Zone page again to look up the part numbers for the two different trucks.? M1-206 for the '02.? M1-107 for the '04.? i guess i was wrong.? thanx for bringing that to my attention.  that's what get for assuming.

I use the M1-206 on my '03 AV, despite the fact that the "correct" one is the M1-107.

I don't believe it matters.  They all fit.  I guess GM felt the need to change it two or three time to keep us on our toes

I have an 03 and use the 02 filter as it is longer / larger as well.

No problems here...

I ran across this thread while looking for information on weather the M1-206 was still the biggest filter I could find to put on there.  I have a 2003 5.3 and have been running the 206 for a long time, no problems.  One key thing I realized while looking at filter data, the M1-107 that it calls for added a bypass valve, only difference other than size from the 2002's.  The M1-206 does not have a bypass valve, is this a big deal?  I think not because we all change our filters regularly, and it does have an anti drain back valve which is more important in my mind, even though I can't see how drain back would be an issue with the filter mounting orientation and location, but hey.  Here is some data from a nice website for us that can't stand to put the stock tiny filter back on.  I did not care to format better, running short on time.  here is the link to the site. http://oilfilterdata.com/index.php?view=replacements&type=oversize&model=m1-107&sort0by=0&sort0asc=1&page=2

EXCELLENT post Grey North Face!  Thank you for putting the data directly into your post also, rather than just a link.  Appreciate the source link as well, but it is nice not to have to open another window, log into another site, etc just to see the point.

And the point you make is a good one.  If GM saw fit to call for a bypass valve in the newer Vortec oil filters, it seems like the most prudent choice for me would be to not use the M1-206 anymore.  I'm not going to try and second guess the engineers.  It costs GM money to create, stock, inventory, and manage new part numbers, so it seems likely that if the older oil filter for the similar model engine were good enough, GM would have simply continued to specify it.

I wonder what the difference is between the M1-107 and the M1-102 above it?  The data across all columns appears identical between the two.

Get the filter for a 2002.
I run it in my 02,03 and 06 5.3.
Gm changed to a shorter filter in 03 for some reason but the 99-02 filter is longer.
