I was servicing the AC system and can't locate an underhood capacity sticker for the life of me. So I looked it up in an online PDF chart, finding two specifications: 43 oz. with rear AC or 25.5 oz. without rear AC.

Now, mine has rear hvac vents, but as far as I know they are fed from the front system via under-floor ducts. I'm positive there is no rear evaporator or fan.

1. Was there even an Avvy made with a rear evap and fan in that era?

2. Did the rear vents mean a bigger evap to handle the additional airflow? Or is this just a case of someone doing cut-and-paste from the Tahoe?

3. Does anyone know where the dang sticker is on this thing? Or have the same vehicle with the sticker still in place that can verify the charge required?

Avalanches and Escalade EXT do not have the rear air you are reading about.

The rear air at the rear vents is simply ducted air from the main cabin a/c.

Some Tahoes and Suburbans and similar trucks DO have rear air and additional parts and freon is required for those.

That's what I thought. Hopefully the chart is right about the weight for the front, 'cause that's what I put in.

(p.s. A bit of nearly useless trivia: The trade name 'Freon' refers to a family of fluorinated refrigerants -- R12, R13, R22, R401a, etc. The Avalanche uses 134a -- trade name "Suva" -- not Freon. But I caught your meaning.)

I tried to make that same distinction both on this forum and on some Facebook groups and was shot down every time.

So, I just go with the group mentality on the matter since it doesn't seem to matter.

The Kleenex effect. If you Google it riding an Escalator after popping Viagra, security might Taser you. ;-)
