Thanks to Avialanche for these pics that I think help solve the missing toe-hole in the rear bumper case. Let me know if you agree. I apologize for defacing someone else's pics.

WBH currently offers the same basic arrangement.  The toe step on a cladded just offers convenience a few inches lower, which works nicely for some folks.

Regardless if it's in jest or not, those steps on the cladded do serve a purpose.  Step up on a lifted AV with muddy boots on and see if it doesn't slide into the corner of the bed or tailgate.  Now you got scratches on your paint.  Do the same in the pocket of the claded bunper & your toe is "locked in".  I don't need to justify, but you can picture it.

I have a cladded 03 and have the toe-hole. While I don't really use it as I'm 6'4" My wife can't get into the back with out it. She is 5'4" and her legs aren't long enough to get them up on the bumper or tailgate without the toe-hole. I don't even have a lift.

Thanks for the input. I have the toe-hole one mine. I was being semi-sarcastic trying to read the minds of the Powers That Be in GM as to why they got rid of the toe-hole. I'd like to rip a new toe-hole in the person responsible for the blandifacation of the Av

I agree.

I guess I'm the short one here.  I'm 6'2" with a 6" lift & 35" tires.  With this combination, the bottom of the toe hold is 27" from the ground & 33" to the top of the bumper.  I use that toe hole quite frequently.

Of course, my '02 has toe holes (They're all cladded). But, even at 6' 00'' tall, it's still more comfortable to use the toe holes lnstead of all the way up to the bumper top.

But, then again, I am getting up there a little, in age. I hit the Big 5-0 last year.

Just received the latest J.C. Whitney truck catalog today and saw a new item that made me think of you guys that are jonesin for the missing rear toe-step on the new Avalanche.  It's a Bully receiver mount extendable cowboy step.  From the photo it appears to mount in the 2" receiver hitch (as a pass-through design, so your regular hitch still fits) and extends to the side.  It just telescopes out past the bumper to form a step when you're in need of one, letting you step up into the bed or onto the lowered tailgate.  Price shows as about $55 though.
