Drove an EXT for the weekend

Wow,
I drove my grandfather's EXT for the weekend when he came to visit me. It was amazing. For one the truck has some features mine doesn't. For two, Holy cow that thing hauls. It seems twice as fast as my 5.3L and its only .7L bigger. Last nite we were on the way home from a nice dinner and this punk kid pulls up in an ugly camaro/firebird thing. He starts revving real loud and whatnot. I am driving and am planning on ignoring him. When the light turned green he took off. My Grandpa said, "Go ahead Trump it. Show him its not your "father's Oldsmobile" !" We blew him away. What do I need to do to make the Av as fast and as responsive as gramps' EXT?

Nice kill story but go easy on the Camaro/Firebird bashing. Not all of us are punk kids. I guarantee my WS6 would eat that EXT alive.

Definately not bashing...I was actually telling my grandpa about my friend Brian's WS6 being the baddest sportscar I have ever, seen, or heard. If I could have any Sports car in that class it would be the WS6. You can hear his car from miles down the road. And it is soooooo fast.
This car I raced I just caste into the "Camaro/Firebird" category, I don't even know what it was. It was old and beat up. I have great respect for both of those cars. And I being a 21 year old "kid" myself, I just call the punk kids as I see 'em ;) No offense to the car. It was more to sell the story that anything. Sorry if that offended anyone. Guess I have to be more PC.

OhOneWS6 is correct. if you run up on the wrong F-body he will eat that 6.0L for lunch, easily. but that Escalade is nice. so is your WS6 OhOne.

I wonder what the EXT would do with the 0-60 3 Times trick ???

I told my husband the only thing wrong with my Av was that it's not an EXT. He's quick on his feet and replied that the Bowtie version is more appropriate to the nature of the truck. I'm a Cadillac afficionado from way back, however, so that's small consolation.

The EXT has a 345 HP motor. The little V-8 in the Av has 280, I believe, but moves out fairly well considering the heft. The EXT must be a joy. Your grandfather is obviously a man of taste and sophistication.

No offense taken. Just gotta defend the F-Body. :) Nice EXT by the way. We seriously considered one before we bought the AV. I just couldn't justify the extra cash and lost gas mileage for my wife to drive back and forth to work.

I agree! Not only that but a guy who likes the performance of the Caddy as well as the goodies.

Let's face it...most trucks will not outperform a decent sports car. But I'm pleasantly surprised at the get up and go of the Av. The Caddy has 60 more HP too!

My wife has one of the last WS6 Trans Ams made. I love that car!!!! (y) ;D I wish I could buy it from her some day.

I have an old 92 Camaro. I guess you'd call it a beater at this point, but it does the job for the daily commute. At 130k miles, it's been pretty reliable so far. Great car! (y)

I also had a 90 Camaro. The thing was a turkey. It had engine control problems that no amount of money, parts, and labor were ever able to fix. It would just die when crossing an intersection, or even more conveniently, when you were crossing the train tracks. I lost count of how many close ones I had in that thing.

While we're at it . . . . I had a 79 Firebird, 301 as I remember, 4 speed. Nice car until it was trashed by vandals. It took thousands to repair it.

This is way off-topic, but I still think it was a mistake for GM to kill the F-Body. Their "new" GTO is just laughable IMHO. I hope they don't expect that thing to be a reasonable replacement.

>:D ;D (y) :2:

Jay where were you driving when you smoked this 'neck?

People, you don't understand the people in North Florida. Jay's description of a punk kid is probably right on. But then again we are the same age (y) ;D ! I don't think it had anything to do with the car. The comment was directed at that particular driver.

Hey imaniguana,

I take it she is your X-wife since you would have ot buy the car from her. ;D Is it a 2002?

Sounds like your history with the F-body is similar to mine. I have had a 70, 76, two 86, 83, and an 85 Camaro and or Z/28s as well as an 80, 84, 2000 and a 2001 Trans Ams. The only thing I have missed is a first generation. As soon as I find a good deal on a 69 SS/RS vert with a 396 I will own one of those as well.

The GTO is not a replacement for the F-body. The target market for that car is a whole diffferent group. It is really a well built ride. Don't judge it until you sit in one. The interior appointments rival that of BMW and Mercedes. The fit and finish is far better than anything GM builds here in North America and to top it off it has the awsome power of the LS1 V8 with speculation an LS6 "Judge" will be available in the future.

GM should not call a vehicle with a detuned Chevy engine in an Australian chassis, GTO. It looks to be a fine automobile but it's not a goat.

While we're on the subject, I'm sick and tired of the LS1 being dropped into every engine bay that comes along. Each of the divisions should have proprietary engines for the premium or performance models in each line and leave the common or shared motors to the fleet cars. With the premium I paid for my Z06, I would think exclusivity would be part of the bargain.

As it currently stands the LS1 has only been available in 4 vehicles( 5 if you consider the Camaro different than the Firebird). Compared to the number of models GM produces that seems pretty exclusive if you ask me. You have to go all the way back to the late 70s early 80s to find a GM that did not have a corporate engine and I gotta tell you most of their last efforts SUCKED. Remember the 301? What a POS that was. Or how about Oldmobiles 260? There is another boat anchor of a motor. I'll take the current crop of GM coporate power plants over those any day.

As for the GTO. I think it is a very fitting vehicle for the badge. I have hashed this out too many times on other boards to get into it again here. Not that I am discounting your opinion, I just dis-agree. The new GTO has a lot of the same qualities as the original GTO. That is all you will here from me on that subject.

I agree. The GTO / Holden is a fitting vehicle for the GTO badge. The original Holden was/is a screamer.

chad,
I was on 34th St. headed south. I smoked him past the Hilton/University Conference Center. I don't do Much speeding in G-ville, Too many hogs in hogtown.

TPD isn't that bad on speeding...it's just getting to Tally on I-10 that is terrible! Freakin' Madison and Jefferson Counties. Speeding Tickets are their only form of income it seems.
