I’m new and can’t figure out how to respond on a current thread so I guess this my only option.

I just bought an 07 LTZ with 133K miles (1/4/23) Two days after buying it I heard a loud pop that sounded like it was under the dash near the passenger compartment. Shortly after that I noted a check engine light.

I took it to have the code read and it was a P0175. It’s a code for the fuel running too rich. It was suggested I try adding a can of sea foam to my fuel which I did. We cleared the code and it was good for a week. I do think I may hear more rattle behind the dash than I did before but considering I had barely had the truck when this happened it’s hard to know for sure.

A week later (1/12/23) the check engine light came back on. I had since purchased an ODBII reader and it threw the same code. I took it into my local shop and the mechanic is going to change the MAF sensor and give it a tuneup. When he tried to pull the first wire it literally broke off.

A friend has an avalanche and he has a lot of issues with the AFM. He told me to take it in to a muffler shop and have them delete it. And also have the truck tuned for better fuel mileage.

What are your thoughts? Is this good advice? Any other things experienced owners can offer as advice? I love the truck and want to do what is best to keep it in its best operating condition.

Sorry this was so long.

The 07/08 Avalanches with the early AFM have a lot of issues with Lifter failure in tha active fuel cylinders..
Some never have an issue but most will with age and mileage etc. Oil change frequency tends to help with
the problem. I made it to 259K in my 07 before it happened, most have the issue much sooner. Not sure where
your truck is in the process, but its a possible issue for sure. Best thing you can do is deactivate the AFM as early
as possible. Convinced my truck would have run forever if I had..

The Range Module from Range Technologies is my preferred/lowest cost option and many on this forum use them.
I dont work there and get nothing for endorsing them, but its a quality engineered product that does what its supposed
to do for a reasonable cost. If you already have the issue it likely wont help, If not its money well spent. Another typical
sign you have the problem is a sudden increase in oil consumption.. Best of luck Sir.

Most muffler shops can't help you delete the AFM/DOD system. First step would be to 'tune' it out of the car's computer... the hard delete is to take off the top end of the engine and replace lifters and cams, there are kits for this sold through engine retailers and speed shops. Keep an eye on your oil pressure and check the oil level often. Use the best quality oil and oil filters that you can find. I have been adding Marvel Mystery Oil at every oil change. Good luck with your new ride - these are great trucks, with some top end lubrication issues and a so so transmission.
