That TLC will out last the Av, have a lower cost of maintenance than the Av, kick the crap out of the Av off road, But. . .  the Av will be more comfortable, get a bit better gas mileage, tow more weight, drive better on the road and like someone else said, be much more functional for every day life as a guy.

Refer to the bold print above in your statement.  What do you mean by "maintenance"?  Are you talking "routine mx" or "replacement cost" for parts failure?  At least with a few of those, I have a friend with a TLC would debate that issue.  In fact, he's probably trading in his TLC as we speak for an AV due to the high cost of mx....particularly parts.

Im new, so i know my opinion wont count for much, but i do own an 07 Av and a 91 Landcruiser. I havent had the opportunity to take the Avalanche into the woods yet, but just from driving it around and general 4wd knowledge i agree with the others who have stated you shouldnt test the 'Cruiser with the Avalanche. My FJ80 turns into a tank in lo-range with the diff locked.

If you want to make a Cruiser look silly, challenge him to a tug of war or drag race... but leave the off-roading realm alone.

To the guy looking to buy an 80... look 92 and up. 90 and 91 were bad years. Theyre still unstoppable, but the 92 and on variety had a buttload more power. The 90 and 91 have lots of parts that are specific to those two model years. My 1991 FJ80 is broke... it was cheaper to buy the Avalanche than it was to fix the Cruiser!  :kidding:

As far as the solid axle goes, the one guy nailed it. Unless youre in a Baja 1000 type race, go for the solid axle... Strength, durability, and flexibility.
