Mellow trail riding/off road trips is what I was thinking also.

Not so tame there are no obstacles the more adventuresome among us can try but the rest can go around, I'll stick to the middle ground here. I'll also stick around and help if someone gets stuck, breaks down etc., we will have FRS radios, I don't use a cell phone but have OnStar* minutes.

I do not think a tow would have helped much, unfortunately.  It is deceptively steep there, not just laterally, either.  When we went over, we took a moment to take a breath and be certain we were stopped, because you can't tell in that picture, but we lurched forward considerably too, and stopped when our front passenger wheel ran into something.  (We slid a bit on our side until then, just a foot or so.)  I was afraid that with as steep as it was, falling into that hole, and then stopping so suddenly, that the back end would come up as well.

I am also not interested in going out and doing any major off roading. I am going to be running my Geolanders not my BFG's, and like most i can't afford to tear up my rig. I am willing to go trail driving and some climbing, just stay away from the extreme rock climbing. I love to take the Av off road and have fun, so lets run on that theme. I believe more people would come if we kept it a little sane.

rocks I will stay away from...off roading sounds like a blast !!

Sounds like fun.  Lets go at it, as long as I keep at least 3 wheels on the ground at all times.

I hope to have some new gears and other parts on by then.  Lets see what works and what doesn't.

I will follow you, word is that you are adept at moving boulders and such

I will be ready for some off-roading by then!

I'd want to go.. Do you have any idea how difficult it will be? I'll be in a rental AV and don't want to tear it up. If it was my own, then hell ya...

Todd, do you know if some of the rental AVs will be 4x4s? If so, I'd like one of those.

Also, 04AVFan's poor little garage queen AV... Heaven forbid it get a spec of dust on it.

If his AV wasn't so damn good lookin' and CLEAN, I'd have to give him a harder time! I'm amazed everytime I see it.

....Would you like the insurance...Yea I'l take the full coverage

As far as I know the off roading will be rather tame.. unless you own it and want to go for it! Right now I don't know what the selection for rentals will be, except.. he said they will be "nice" rides.

Refer to the rental thread for details. As soon as I know more I will post it there.

The Badlands portion will be rather mellow unless you want to take on a few extreme trails. I am sure mud can be found if it's wanted.

I have practice at that.  Maybe next time I can practice moving trees or other large objects.

I have seen the pictures of the "boulder" moving. That was great!

Todd

Hehe yea that was fun...a lot of engineering went into the movement of the said Rock, measurements and conferencing on which way it would move under the stress of the tow rope.

New to the site and the area!  Just moved to Las Vegas from South Dakota so this obviously upsets me.....having the National in my home state and I can't even go!  You will definately have a good time with the offroading and if you get some rain it will be even better!  Take a few towstraps even if you have a winch cause there will be some trails, if you go down them that won't allow for a 40' strap cause you'll both be screwed!!  Definately a good time.  While you're there make sure to drive Spearfish Canyon  http://www.spearfish.com/canyon/  and The Needles Highway  http://plbdesign.com/SD/needle/index.shtml
