It was in the past 2 years.....not sure about now. PM SS, he might have some info. about it....not sure though. And last year I got out of school early to go to this event, so it would be nice if it was after June 23st of '06!  :)

Thanks for the heads-up, we will take that into consideration.

Hey just curious is this going to be a National Event also?

Not that I'm aware of, just a regional sort of event, just like it was in the past.

It was in the past 2 years.....not sure about now.

It was never a "National" event, meaning that it is officially sanctioned and sponsored by CAFCNA and targeted at the entire membership. It was, however, an international event, meaning that it was jointly produced by US and Canadian chapters, for the benefit of US and Canadian members.

Yep, we are well aware of that issue. My own kid has been unable to attend either year so far, because he was still in school and either taking SAT tests, or studying for finals. :6:

We ran into scheduling constraints, however, based on the location. Being a tourist area, the season starts in June, and if we held it any later not only would the hotel costs skyrocket, but they do not accept group reservations. The only way we could hold a group event there was to do it in the off season.

We are looking at alternate locations and dates for 2006.

The Flint Journal story link & excerp

Niagara Falls adventure goes to extremes
Sunday, September 18, 2005

"The best bet for your budget is to package your attractions. The Great Gorge Adventure Pass is a great option. It provides all-day transportation on the People Mover (a good deal because parking near the falls is expensive.) And it includes several vantage points for falls viewing --the Maid of the Mist, Journey Behind the Falls, a white water walk by the rapids and the popular Butterfly Conservatory -- all for $34.95 (Canadian) for adults and $21.95 (Canadian) for children 6-12. (www.niagaraparks.com)."

"Travelodge, Clifton Hill is a good bargain choice, still in the center of the action. For $57 (U.S.) and up, you get free parking, and some rooms even come with a heart-shaped Jacuzzi. (www.falls.com)"

"Crossing the border: Everyone in the car, including minors, may be required to offer proof of citizenship, including a passport or birth certificate. A passport will be required for all border crossings into Canada starting Jan. 1, 2008."

Seriously, what are good dates for everyone? Preferably, what are good months for everyone? June, July, or August?  Where would everyone like to have it? Same place, same general area? U.S. side of the falls, or Canada side? Overall, there are lots of questions that need answering, but obviously the committee / other members cannot answer them all at one time. I just threw out some questions that came to mind, and I'm sure that there are more that need answering. The CAFCNA committee is busy enough, and I think that we should all what to get a confirmed response from them, before we all bombard them with questions, concerns, and/or annoying them to give us members answers. Hope to here from everyone soon! We can still post out opinions about NF III, OR NF II, just KEEP IT CLEAN! Talk to everyone soon...

-Ty

The above are Ty's opinions and are solely his. The questions are strictly his, and if need be, more members can ask more. The above was/is not intended to be a annoyance to the committee nor other members. Please post your opinions and/or questions about NF II OR NF III, but PLEASE KEEP IT CLEAN!!!!

I'm off last 2 weeks of May & first 2 weeks of July. High seniority will take conjunction to shop shutdowns so I can't get off June or later July.  >:(

I agree...

The VACATION SCHEDULE is almost ready to come to me for picks.

I only get 3 days to make my picks before it has to go to the next person.

I need the Niagara dates so I can put in the correct picks.

We will if we get a date real soon...

If not I will be forced to GUESS-TI-MATE the date when I choose vacation time.

If it is wrong I will NOT be able to attend.

What is taking so long for a date ?

DEPENDING on WHEN it is,  there is a 1% chance that Kimmey and I could make it!! ESPECIALLY NOW that I have that lovely Garmin c330 GPS for my AV !!! What better reason to show up than to try the routing from Canada to the U.S. !!! :4:

Hello fellow AVer's!  Some of you may, or may not know that I was unvoluntarily, volunteered to help with the NF GTG '06.

Here is what I know:  Absolutely nothing.  I haven't heard anything from Mr. Bill or Shapeshifter.  My guess is that due to the holiday season, being here online has been put aside for the time being.  Has anyone emailed either Mr. Bill or Shapeshifter.  If they aren't online, they may not see this thread.  Just a suggestion.  In the case that I do hear something, I will post it hear.

Sorry I couldn't help you guys out better!  Have a Happy New Years!

Thanks

Niagara Falls has been done, twice even, although I only made it once.

Yakmar,

if we got enough pilgrims in a wagon train all the way to Labrador City,

that would be a famous Avalanche trek   :o

:0: Why Not Niagara ?

How about a joint effort of the Tri-State Area (NY, NJ, & CT) Coordinators (Me, Erin, & Gary) to put something together for Niagara in spite of it all.

It may not be as grand, but I am sure if we get Stan (NatsCanAv) the Canadian Coordinator involved too it will be a lot of fun.  We still have plenty of time too.

I'm sure others will want to help make this happen. (Hec54, HeavyD, Cadboy1, 95Sportside, etc.) Anyone wanting to help is welcome.

We can have it at the same Motel as last year (Clifton Hill).  The night-time hanging in the parking lot fun was the best part.

Let's make something happen.

How does the Weekend before or after 4th of July sound ?

No one locally was interested in helping organize it except for my buddy Hec.

If someone is interested by all means set something up, but I have chosen other vacation dates already.

I'd kinda doubt that they will start it again next year. It seems that once something is stopped for a year or a couple years, that people start to loose interest in it.

I'm gettin' kinda sick of all the politics, games, and cry baby crap that takes place between the two sites.

When will someone finally admit this feud is all about the all mighty dollar and the struggle for market share...  ::)

If Niagara ever happens again it will NOT be at the same time of year, but that was going to happen anyway due to many last year that complained that they had to take their kids out of school early.

Ok...   I've vented and I feel much better now....  :deadhorse:

Yes, you've vented, and within that venting you've shown a tremendous amount of ignorance and a huge collection of leping to conclusions.

I've normally found you to be level-headed and very rational in thought, this post was just a complete diversion from that.

You want a National event in Long Island?  Go for it.  Grab the bull by the horns, make some plans, organize people, contact GM themselves, and then approach CAFCNA as a whole and offer to make the event a National event.  Oh, sorry, you don't want to do that?  Todd and his group out there sure did.  This is a HUGE undertaking on their part and has NOTHING to do with AVO/CA/Rideglinesareforcoolguys/etc.

Your post is a HUGE insult to the hard-working folks in Arizona that have developed this event and poured a tremendous amount of their energies in making it happen.

Were you also in support of AVO/CA's proud announcement that their next "National" event was targetted at the typical dates for NF?    I don't recall your speaking out as vocally about that.

Jsal69,
I would like to address a few items you brought up.

1. The date for the NCAGTG was discussed considering Niagara and all the other events that happen throughout the year. June 17-24, 2006 was picked for the early summer months and trying to work with school summer break sessions all across the United States.

2. The National Event for the Chevy Avalanches 2006 will be held in Arizona for one reason and one reason alone. It is because The Arizona Avalanches did all the legwork and put the whole thing together. Please notice this is a “National Chevy Avalanche Get Together” and the Arizona Avalanches are hosting it. CAFCNA has sanctioned it. It is open to anyone that owns an Avalanche. This has nothing to do with what site you are a member of. I believe a large number of people that attend the 2006 NCAGTG will not have heard of any of the Avalanche sites until they heard about the event.

3. Why bring that up in here?

4. I hope it happens again because I would plan my family’s yearly vacation around it and drive I had enough notice. I know I would not be the only Arizona Avalanche member to attend.

5. Hopefully you will read this as a friendly discussion and understand what was the driving factor behind the 2006 NCAGTG date and feel even better. Your first beverage of choice is on me if we ever meet in person.

Hi Todd,

I have talked with you on the site several times, and even over the phone a couple of times, and I think highly of you.

Having said that, I want to apologize for any misunderstanding.   I never meant to imply that any of the AZ Crew didn't work very hard at putting together this upcoming National event.

You guys have a great, loyal crew with a large following.  Probably one of the best in the club next to the Cali local clubs.

I was just assuming some things, and now that you have set the record straight on them I see I was wrong in my assumption.

Today was a bad day because I could not sleep. I was constantly being interupted to the point where I could not fall back to sleep again.

So I decided to get on the computer (bad idea) and start shooting from the hip.

I have been very disappointed since learning that the Niagara Event was being canceled.   I also wanted to put something smaller together in Niagara but didn't get much interest.

So in a moment of weakness and lack of sleep I let my emotions run wild.

I really wish I could attend the AZ event.   I have family that live in the Phoenix area and I love the desert and dry heat.
It is just too much of a drive to do in one week.   I would have to use up 2 weeks vacation and I really don't want to do that.   I like to spread them apart throughout the year so I don't burn out.

I hope the event is the best Avalanche event yet.

Sincerely,
John S.

I'm sorry to hear about the cancellation of the Niagara Falls GTG for this year- I've never been there, and would have loved to take a few days to spend there.  I must have missed the thread about wanting to get this together.  :beating:  Regardless, I hope something could be scheduled in the near future.   :B:

Thank you for all the hard work of putting together these events.  :A:  Hope everyone has fun at the National GTG.   :B:

I'd like to publicly apologize to JSal, as my repsonse was a bit on the harsh side.  To clear the air - there is NO anti-AVO sentiment in the planning of the Arizona National GtG, and Todd's group HAS worked incredibly hard to pull this off.  It's a shame that NF will not happen this year, and we can only hope that 2007 will be a different story.  I hereby nominate JSal to put on the 2007 Nationals somewhere in the tri-state area :P

I kept on bugging the conneticut boys for a spring GTG but was ignored :help:
(JSal was the one person who tried to help  but that area was coordinated with someone else, looks like he's got it now)
I look forward to a GTG up there next year.
Any way I'm looking forward to my 24 hours I'll spend at the National event in Flagstaff and Grand Canyon.
I understand Daytona Z71 gets the pleasure of bringing the goodie bag from Florida since he's traveling further than me,Now if we can keep the gas prices below $2.50 gal.

We'll plan something...

With all the great stuff to do and see in the NYC area...  Why not.

Plus the CT guys are planning some good stuff.   Keep an eye on the tri-state area boards for info.

It's too bad there's no Niagara Falls GTG planned this year. Hopefully 2007 as it's the best central location for east coast and Canada, only 4 hours from here too.

We do have a large GTG in the southeast, Southern Nights in Huntsville, Alambama 5/18-21 for those of us that can't get away or drive to Arizona.

I hope the Nationals out west turns out great and wish I could attend.

Since there is no Niagara this year, I was thinking about the Southern Nights GTG, but i don't think anyone in the northeast has signed up yet or if they are. And 1063 miles for 17+ hours all by myself is a little long, but it is only half as long as the trip to AZ, so that's a plus ::).

There are 3 from New Jersey signed up for Southern Nights GTG

You should volunteer yourself, it might be a close race who'd generate more revenues :P

Now remember boys...   This was my idea...

No stealing this idea.

I am gonna set something up North here.

Hopefully Doug will attend, and Glenn will make a return visit to the area he grew up in.
The only missing factor would be YGMN.   I think if DougD & Enkei come, he just might be enticed to make it.  Especially if its during g the warm months.

There's no telling how much I could raise for charity with this trio and a dunk tank.

The numbers are limitless !!!

I'm gonna start thinking and planning this real soon.

Hi Guys.... Did you see the posting about the NY Lake George GTG?  The Great Escape is offering a great picnic package & the new water park is just opening up this month.  Check out NY.  We are thinking about May 2006.

May 06 sounds COLD for a water park...  I've been sledding all winter and haven't been on this site much.  Can't believe there's no NF GTG for 2006 . :C: :C: :C: :C: :C: :C: :C: :C: :C: :C: :C: :C: :C: :C: :C: :C: :C: :C: :C: :C: :C: :C: :C: :C: :C: :C: :C: :C: :C: :C: :C: :C: :C: :C: :C: :C: :C: :C: :C: :C: :C: :C:
