02'-06' Avalanche Owners....How's YOUR Gas Mileage?

I get crappy mileage. I have tried doing everything suggested and I get 10-13 mpg. I can tow my enclosed trailer or just drive and it does not seem to matter. I can drive at 60 mph to 75mph and I get 10-13 mph. I can drive in town and get 10-13 mph. Granted I have a 6 inch lift and run 35 mud terrains so that has a lot to do with it. I get 15 -20 mpg in my 3/4Ton with a 6.0 so I don't get it. What I do know is I love my Avalanche and I get compliments on it every time I drive it. For a 20 year old rig she looks good and runs great. I don't see parting with her for quite some time. I will say when the motor does tire out I will replace it with a 6.0 or build a stroker motor for it. It might as well have the power if it is going to have bad gas mileage.

03 2500 with 115K miles. I get 12-13 on the highway. In town? I dont want to know!

Will be interesting to see if the mpg improves once the Blackbear tune is complete.

Are you on stock gears? What ratio? 3.73?

I get 10-11 mpg when all my trips for a tank are a few miles or so, which is most of the time for me. When I do highway driving, if 100% I get about 19 mpg, if mixed, I'll get around 14-16 mpg depending on the mix. All 87 octane, z71 1500 4x4 2003.

Better than my son's '07 V6 4WD Traiblazer. He uses 3/4 of a tank from SL to Price or USU & back. Snowbal uses maybe 1/2 at the most for the same trip.

SMART car = PING PONG BALL ON WHEELS

I believe the term for driving an early 2500 8.1l is "Smiles per gallon" - anything else is extremely elusive. Just wish my slow peddle worked as good as the go peddle. And I'm still not terribly happy with the go peddle. Too sluggish of reaction.

Hmm….?
Don’t like smart cars I take it.
Feel safer in it than any of my motorcycles.🤣
Btw it has two “PEDALS.
It’s like driving a street legal go cart.👍

OK OK, I misspelled it... It's a cautionary tale - don't type while trying to stay awake.... I had just worked 30+ hours driving in the previous 48. I was little tired.

I have nothing against smart cars. They're cute. They go, they stop. They have amazing safety features built into the crash cages. But they can't been seen very good. My only gripe with them. I see motorcycles much better because I ride a Harley. In addition, I don't fit in inside one. So, there's that. But I also can't get into a modern Camaro, Focus, or anything smaller than a large car. I just don't bend good enough: bad back, terrible knees, and about 330+ pounds at 6' tall will do that to a person I guess.

So, no offense. I wouldn't mind having one actually just for the fuel mileage. What is it 60+mpg?

Close to 60 mpg, but rarely seen when I drive it. I manual shift the semi automatic and do my best to drive it as aggressive as 3 cylinders and 998 cc will go.🤣
I was surprised at the space inside as many are, but you as a large man I can see it being a bit cramped for you.
I usually drive it daily to work and back in town, parking it is hilarious and it’s the best way to keep the wife in check when we go to Costco. “Sorry dear no room for that in the smart car.” 👍

The first time I ever saw one my wife and I were up near Albert Lea Mn at a starbucks. Two pulled in and both parked in one spot. I was amazed at how small they were. That was near or over 20 years ago I think. IIRC one was a diesel.
