I bought my '03 1500 to tow my race car on an open trailer.  5200# ish is the combination.  Truck has 101K miles on it and it is about 40K towing this trailer.

Truck was great, very comfortable and with the Z66 suspension, fun to drive.  Original tires lasted forever, like 60K.  It was a little hard to use the rear with all the race stuff I carry, fluids, jacks, jackstands, tools, tires, wheels, charger and so on.

Trans went around 92K.  Had it rebuilt and it started acting up again around 99K and on the second rebuild I decided I am pushing my luck so traded it in.

Went out and got a 2500HD with Duramax and Allison..  It is probably more than I need and not as comfy as the Avy but will pull the car better and hopefully last longer.

Had a great time with the Avy or Haggrad as we called it.

thanks for the report, curious to know if you had added a trans cooler?
don't be a stranger, you're always welcome here
good luck with the new HD  :B:

One of those things that I always wanted to do and never did.

Not sure if it would have made a difference though we can make the presumption it could

We got the truck when Harry Potter movie first came out.  My daughter and I were test driving it and we were talking about how big it is and yet how gentle it is with the Z66 suspension.  I said the truck is like a gentle giant.  She said, yeah like Haggrad (spelling) the huge guy the movie that help Harry Potter at the school.

Little things that kids will remember forever

That is why I put this out here.  If you are towing a lot you may want to take some additional precautions on saving that trans.  Maybe mroe frequent fluid chanes, adding trans cooler if it does not have one.

Really screwed me up, I wanted a pick up when I bought the avy and when i bought the pickup, I wanted to keep the avy..just could not trust it would continue to do the tow work
