03 Display Problem

Ok, I have a 03 AV and do not have the optional driver control feature (pedals and steering wheel positional memory).

My problem is that when I start my car in the morning my display reads "driver 2". Now I know this might sound meaningless to some but I would think that if it did not come with that feature of "driver 1 and driver 2" memory functions that it would read driver 1 or nothing at all.

Is there a way to change this to driver 1 or eliminate it all together?

Later.

If you have the leather seats, it comes standard with the memory features. This includes settings for the mirrors, pedals, seats, A/C, and radio presets.

You can use the DIC to select how you want the seat memory triggered and to turn on the easy exit features and tilting mirrors for backing up.

After you get everything set the way you want, hold down the memory 1 button on the door until it beeps twice. After that, just be sure you are using the keyfob labeled "1".

That was gonna be my suggestion, check your keyfob and make sure you're using the one labeled "1" instead of "2". They are different and the car knows which is which, though if you don't have any memory features I'm not sure what if anything it adjusts between them. Perhaps Radio Memory Presets still change from one to the other? I know they do when you have that feature.

Im positive I do not have the memory presets on the vehicle, but I will try to use the other FOB. I am using number two so maybe thats why it reads driver two.

Thats cool if it actually does recognize which FOB Im using, why didnt the dealer tell me about that feature????? :D:

Thanks guys.

That's EXACTLY why it reads Driver 2 :0: and the Truck definately recognizes the different Fobs when you unlock the doors. The Fobs are marked "1" and "2" so you can tell them apart.

Depending on which features you have I think that the Driver # will remember your individual settings for all of these things. Sounds like you don't have the memory seats, but some of the others might still apply.

Driver's Seat Position
Driver's Pedal Position
Power Mirror Positions and Backup tilt behavior maybe
Radio Stations on Preset
Automatic Climate Controll Settings
Behavior of automatic door locks
and possibly DIC settings/display as well.

I'm digging around for the manual to say if it describes these in better detail than I have. Maybe the Chief or Goo or someone who has more resources has a good list of exactly what settings are attached to each Driver #.

My wifes Trailblazer does the same thing. It doesn't have any of the memory features, however, the read out on the display thinks for some reason it does. I believe it is the different FOB's.

There is a way to toggle between No.1 and No.2 drivers from my steering wheel controls in my wifes Trailblazer; however, I haven't driven the Trailblazer since I got my Av and cannot remember how I did this off the top of my head. When the wife gets home tonight I'll check it out.

I wouldn't sweat having a display problem. Since your not equipped with memory features it shouldn't matter which driver is selected. It hasn't ever posed a problem over the last year with my wifes Trailblazer.

Anyone,
What code in the glove box tells me if I have the memory functions or not? And how do I program them in?

I dunno about codes in the glovebox, but I don't think that you have to "program" them in at all.

Unlock the door and start your Avalanche with Keyfob #1. Change where the mirror, radio presets, climate control, seats or pedals are positioned. Turn off and lock the truck.

Repeat that process with Keyfob #2 but change something to a position that's noticably different than you did with Keyfob #1.

Now unlock your Avalanche again with Keyfob #1 and watch to see if what you changed during Keyfob #2 goes back to it's original position.

That should be all there is to it. No "programming" necessary. Just drive and enjoy and it remembers what you like.

There are some items that require programming.

You never said whether or not you have the heated leather bucket seats. If you do, it has memory on everything. If not, there are some items that are programmable thru the Driver Information Center.

The best thing I can suggest is to read
read.gif
the owners manual.

I spent at least a couple hours with my Av in the garage setting up the seats, locking, exterior lighting, mirrors, easy exit driver seat etc.

Sorry to interject, but with all this talk of programming and setting memory figured this is as good a place as any.
Does anyone know how to program the AV for a second FOB? Just bought the wife a used 02 Avalanche and the dealer wanted to only provide one FOB
He finally relented and produced a second one with the same #'s on the back but said he'd have to program it for $60.00. I took it and figured I'd find the sequence on the net. No such luck.
Keylessride.com wants $20.00 for the info. Any one been through this before?

Do a search, it's here in the site someplace. And it's FREE!

You just gave this guy $25,000 plus and he is fighting over a $60.00 keyfob????? ??? I would remind him of the possability (or not!) of you purchasing a second vehicle from him in the future. Not to mention the word of mouth you could give friends that are looking to buy a truck.

Well, I tried using the search function for the fob programming and came up empty. Does anyone have this info handy for RickyJoe?

Hare ya go try this.

Transmitter Programming

Important
All transmitters which are to be recognized by the remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR) must be programmed in a single programming sequence. If the system is placed in program mode it will erase all previously programmed transmitters upon the receipt of the programming signal from the first transmitter. Up to four transmitters can be programmed. Do not operate or program the transmitters in the vicinity of other vehicles that are in the keyless entry program mode. This prevents the programming of the transmitters to the incorrect vehicle.

You may program up to 4 transmitters, using either of the two following procedures:

Transmitter Programming Procedure (Method 1 - No Tools Required)
Close all the vehicle doors.
Insert the ignition key into the ignition lock cylinder.
Press and hold the door unlock switch.
While holding the door lock switch in the unlock position, cycle the ignition ON, OFF, ON, OFF.
Release the door unlock switch. The doors will lock and unlock to confirm the program mode.
Press and hold the LOCK button and the UNLOCK button simultaneously on one transmitter. After a delay of approximately 15 seconds, the doors will lock and unlock to confirm the programming of that transmitter.
Repeat the previous step to program up to four transmitters.
Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position in order to exit the keyless entry transmitter mode.
Operate the transmitter functions in order to verify correct system operation.

Transmitter Programming Procedure (Method 2 - Scan Tool Required)
Install a scan tool.
Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.
Use the scan tool in order to access the Body Control Module (BCM) Special Function: Program Key Fobs menu.
Follow the directions on the scan tool in order to program the transmitters.
Operate the transmitter functions in order to verify correct system operation.

According to the 2003 Avalanche owners manual the Avalanche with DIC will actually recognize the FOB AND will even let you know when the battery is getting weak on the thing.

Now THAT'S slick! :B:

Thanks kcole683, That's just what I was looking for. These programming steps seem to be kept secret more than some of our national defense items.

At least not they are in the Fan Club for all to use when necessary.

I thought I had a problem with my 03 AV!!!!

My dealer told me that the KEY was what told the DIC what driver ( 1 or driver 2) was operating the vehicle.
WRONG!!!
My FOB 1 stopped working so I unlocked it with FOB 2 and then put the Key from the FOB 1 to see if the car would recognize the key but "Driver 2 displayed using the driver 1 FOB key!!

No fricken wonder why... the dam dealer was wrong ...it is the FOB that tells the DIC what driver is in there.

Yikes!!!!

And if you are like me and opted to not have the seat, mirror, pedal memory options, the FOB will only recognize preferred pre-sets on the radio.

Now my wife can use the AV (minimal use of course) and have her own presets on the radio.
