03 Mods Fitted On 02's

I have been reading with high interest the new changes on the 03's. To me an aftermarket stereo could be made to sound better than the BOSE. The dual HVAC is nice but something else to break.

The one which is of interest to me is the power tilt mirrors when reverse engaged. Could this be a simple mod by adding the control module into the 02?

Also, could the center console be updated too or would that involve changing a large portion of the lower dash?

This person is overwhelmed with the information on this site. To all who make it "happen", EXCELLENT JOB!!!

Add to the list the new light switch with a real "off", is this a "plug in swap"?

I would like the console swap. I am looking into the possiblity. I know that the outlets and ashtray from the 02 has to go.

I agree. ;D
The console on the 03 looks a lot better than ours. I really like the depth of the of the lid, and it looks like there's a non-slip pad there. That should make it a lot easier.
Keep us updated goo (y)

I was looking at my center console today does your top have the bumpy ridges on the top of the console that seems like a non slid surface? or is it smooth and that is why people are doing teh on slip mod?

This is what the '03 console lid looks like. I borrowed this picture from my post in the Silverado topic. You can also see the work that I mentioned that would be required to fit this in an '02.

I'm already looking into the center console. it's possible. You'll have to replace the piece that goes around the glove box and stretches to the center of the dash.
It bolts up just like the Denali/Escalade center console.
Where the 03's dash bezel dips down, the trim from the glove box (described above) fills in the for our dash bezel.
Once I get my hands on one I'll figure it all out, but it's pretty easy.

I want the adjustable pedals.

So removing the current outlets and ashtray to fit this baby in isn't a big deal then. Also, since the new console is wider do you have to replace the lower dash piece below the steering wheel?

I want to weigh in on the p-folding mirrors issue raised by the original poster, although the c-console is certainly something I am "monitoring". As for the power folding mirrors, to bring the '03 folding mirror option to the 02 you would need power folding mirror units, both sides, and the 03's are also signal mirrors so I am not sure what else you would need to do wiring-wise but it should not be too tough. Pricey yes, tough no. Then you would need the p-fold switch - Goo says it is built into the mirror adjust switch, which itself is part of the window/door lock/mirror switch pod. If that thing is the same size as the current pod in the 02, then it should be an easy sap, but again, that is a bunch of switches in that pod so t might be pricey (also, I am assuming it is one combined pod, if however the adjustable mirror switch is seprate and swappable, then this would be easier.)

and then there is the wiring issue, you would need to source the correct wiring harness plug from AC Delco or elsewhere for the mirror switch, and if you are swapping out the entire pod, we would need to confirm that the other switches will accept the current plugs on the 02, or else other AC Delco harnesses would need to be sourced.

Option B is to source the power folding mirrors for the EXT (non-signal, but heated and autodimming driver-side) and go throught the same question on the switch gear. The EXT p-fold switch (I have it in hand) is simply too large to find a home in an 02 dash without creative work.

Hello,
My wife WANTS me to get the turn signal mirrors for our Z-66 2002. I only have standard power adjust mirros, (Not heated of anything else).
Is this gonna be possible.
She, I to feel that the signals, almost standard on the Expidition are a great feature.
Any advice, input would be much help-
Thanks all... ;D :B:

jackalanche, I have seen the switch for the power folding mirrors on the escalade, and it is the same size as our fog light or cargo lite switch. Furthermore I think going that route is a lot easier than the '03 route. Personally I don't need the signal mirrors and I don't even like them.

I have checked with a couple of aftermarket shops in my area, but no one seems is able to do the power mirror mod for me. I wouldn't even try to do the mod myself, so I am just going to kee on trying.

I just heard back from my dealer, the guy in the parts department said that he can't find a way to make the mirrors on the '02 fold. He doesn't think that it is possible to swap them with escalde/ext mirrors. He also said that trying to use the p folding mirrors from the'03 on an '02, it would be next to impossible.

If anyone knows someone or can help me out with this, would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks.

James, waaay back in time I posted a bunch on this topic. First, as far as I can tell, the EXT mirrors (the one for the D-side cost more than the one for the P side because of the auto-dimming feature, fed from the inside rear view mirror) will fit on the Av. they are pricey, but discounted not too bad. The switch is huge, it is as big as the entire area to the left of the gauge area that (we with 4wd) is currently occupied by the auto, 4wd, 2wd, lo etc. switches. Cannot solve very easily for that.

I wouldn't mind having the '03 signal feature, but I don't want to give up the dimming feature as I would have to if I put in the aftermarket glass replacements

Does anybody have more information on the '03 mirrors? Do they truly do everything (puddle lights, power, memory, heat, dim, power fold, signal)? How about part numbers and price? Anybody know the connectors and how they are wired?

It seems to me like the '03 mirrors are just like the '02 Escalade mirrors with the addition of the signal function. The standard Av '02 mirrors have one connector, the '02 Escalade has the same connector plus an additional one for the extra functions (memory plus power folding.) This extra connector also has two "unused" postions. Any chance that one or both of these are used for the signal function?

If they physically fit, it could be do-able, but wiring will be complicated. Finding the mate for the second connector will also be difficult. Anybody know a part number for this connector? (Without having to buy an entire truck wiring harness!)

Once they are installed, assuming they fit, the problem becomes hooking up the extra features. The signals shouldn't be too tough. The power folding is tougher: you will either need to mount and hook up the big Escalade switch, or rig up something different. The memory is probably the biggest job: it will need a memory controller and control panel.

It sounds possible for a good hacker with a lot of guts, but it's definitely not a plug-and-play proposition.

I have a guy looking into the mirror swap, he said that there is a good possibility to swap the 03 AV mirrors with the 02 AV's, even though I am not to fond of the signals on the mirrors, but what ever gives me the ability to have pwr folding mirrors, i'll do it.
I will keep you posted on what my guy finds out, he said he was going to look at the wiring harness in an 03 and try to see if it will work with the 02.

If you don't want the signals, you can either leave them disconnected, or consider the '02 Escalade mirrors which don't have the signals, but do power fold.

I will keep you posted on what my guy finds out..
Oh yes, please do keep us posted!

When I hear the parts guys or anyone else tell me it's not possible, it makes me want to throw up. Come on!! They think that if the connectors don't match up then it's not possible.
They told me the Steering wheel audio controls weren't possible. Oh really?
Anything is possible!! You could run a lawn mower off your truck if you knew how to wire it correctly.
I quit asking the parts guys a long time ago about technical questions or ideas. It's almost like if they can't find it on their screen in 1 minute, the part "isn't available".
Dimming feature, easy to hook up even if you don't have it already it. Two wires that run to the inside dimming mirror.
Signal feature, another easy mod. Couple of wires to the BCM probably.
Power folding, you don't need the control module. The control module is just for that fancy soft hit switch on the Escalades.
I picked up a couple of really small black switches a while ago that will probably work.
I have a pair of the 02 Escalade mirrors laying around. I think it's time to get this dog running.
They probably used the same mirrors for the 03's just added the signal part to the empty slots.
I priced out the Escalade signal mirrors and they are about $350-400 each, Ouch!!!
Telling me it's not possible just makes me go out and do it.

It is not POSSIBLE for you to buy an Avalanche >:D

Alright! You go for it, Jason.

Of course I had you in mind when I said:

SS- I don't know anything about the wiring but the mirrors on my 03 do "everything."

Way back this thread was talking about the 03 center console. I'm 6'4" and the 03 console made me feel crowded. It is noticeably wider and takes up inches of width between the seats. If your tall and used to the room in the 02, better check before you leap.

IF YOU CAN SWITCH '03 IN FOR THE '02 AVALANCHE CONSOLES,HOW DOES THE '03 ESCALADE OR DENALI CONSOLES LOOK? ANY BETTER OR HARDER TO INSTALL?

What I am interested in on the 03's is the trip computer. I would love to have that in my AV. The only thing I miss when driving my AV over my Wife's Van.

When I drive the Van, I actually drive with the computer in mind and get better mileage.

That is really out the window now with my new Magnaflow though >:D I can't keep my foot out of it. >:D
