We've looked into it. It's cheaper and better to get something aftermarket.
You could get the complete Vizualogic system with a DVD player for what they're charging for the factory DVD.
I was wondering the same thing too! I was thinking a new headliner and wiring harness along with the DVD. Any idea what they want for the DVD alone. I'm sooo mad I didn't order that option.
You can do SOOOOOO much better aftermarket!!! Many options to choose from and all work better and cost less than the oem. You can do 8, 9, or 10" with or without built in dvd. Very easy install to boot (under 2 hours for whole system normally). And for those of you that have head units with aux in capability you won;t even have to modulate.
First of all, the oem unit is actually made by another company, not GM. Second, you can get a MUCH better and larger unit aftermarket and it will install and work just as well as the oem.
I would think the cost to install an OEM unit would be not worth it. You would need to replace the head liner. If you have a 2002 AV, I don't think it is even possible. You may even need to replace the radio. The OEM unit is ok but a lot after markets out there are much better and look just as good if installed by a pro. A friend has after market in wife's Windstar and I could not tell is was not an OEM.
I recently put in a dvd player in my 2002. Put a 10.4 in screen in roof and use a pyle dvd player mount into the console. Better then factory and looks awesome. Plus my kids are now veggies sittin in back.VERY NICE
I second (or third) those other ideas - find a good installer in your area (that is the hard part) and they can hook you up with something that looks stock, but works WELL beyond the factory system. And you will pay MUCH less than going to GM parts.
