buddy of mine bought a brand new 04 z-71. he owned it 2 days when he had problems. everything works great(alarm lights) but when you get in the truck and turn it over it clicks once. if you turn the key on/off it will usually start. dealer has owned the truck for 9 days. gm techs looked at it from detroit. replaced starter. same thing. next said it was loose ground in dash. same thing. anyone have any ideas?

??? Ignition Switch ,,Wire @ Starter Relay ,,Theft System Failure @ PCM,, Bad Key ,,Engine Locked up .....

Maybe change the ignition switch and then follow those wires to see if they are properly connected/loose. Even a continuity check on those wires can't hurt.

Thats my next guess-

IGNITION switch...it tends to be the cause of many problems....

I had that once (on another vehicle); it was the new battery!. The dome lights dim like a very heavy load / short or bad terminal connection. It wasn't "discharged" it was just bad internally.
In an Av, too low of voltage sends the bus and controllers into kaos. In this case, it could be well charged but have a resistive internal connection (effectively like the old corroded post problem).
I hope they checked it first!

i had an '02. i traded it for an '04. i have noticed a difference betwenn the two when starting. the '04 seems to have a delay between the time you turn the key, and the time the starter relay kicks in. ??? has always started. just a small delay though. i will keep my on open.

GM side terminal batteries are notorious for the cables coming loose. sounds simple, but I've seen it a hundred times.
