If I may add, it`s a good idea to put tape on all painted surfaces around the light, so you don`t mark the paint by accident. Mags/Nick

Instructions worked perfect for me  (y) You don't need to take out whole headlight, just get gap enough for hand to locate connectors. Good job me  >:D Ambers installed and works perfect  :B:

Ok so I finally did mine, great step by step info, be sure to place a soft piece of cloth on the bumper to avoid scratching.

If you want to wait till Hotlanta,I have done several amber DRL's without removing the headlight. Loosen all the 10mm bolts on the upper grill and upper headlights then squeeze my skinny lil' arms in to twist the old DRL's out and install the ambers. Quick and Painless!!

Did the Amber's years ago with these instructions and they are great.  Just did the low beam on the drivers side in less than 5 mins. Take out top two 10mm bolts on headlight and it will move about a 1/2 inch, reach in behind around washer fluid and turn Lowbeam socket counter clockwise 1/4 turn, pull out , change bulb, reverse to put in. cleanup takes longer than bulb change.

3157 or 4157 NALL (NA = Amber / LL = Long Life) Always get long life bulbs you don't wanna change em too often!
I'll bring my 10mm and my skinny little circus show arms!

Anybody happen to have the ambers in a 2013 Silver Ice Mattalic yet?  I had the ambers in my 2003 Dark Grey Mattalic and loved the look but not so sure about the look with the new truck.  I would just try them if it was as easy to swap them as it was in my 2003 but given the effort on these newer trucks was looking for the lazy way out. Thx

Thanks for the illustrated instructions on removal of headlights.

I went to get my 09 Avy inspected today, and was "failed" for having ambers instead of white lights for my daytime running lights.  I also had a burnt side marker light on the driver's side headlight assembly.

By the way, for anyone who needs to change out the side marker light, it is part #194LL or 194LF(Sylvannia).

So, I put my original white lights back in for my daytime running lights, and replaced the burnt side marker bulb, so I could pass the inspection.
It did take about 2 hours for me to do this, and I brought my Avy back to "pass" the inspection and get my Louisiana state inspection sticker.  I talked with the guy doing the inspection, and he told me he recently had to change out a bad HID bulb on an Escalade.  He followed the GM recommended procedure, and it took him about 2 hours also.

This is a great and detailed writeup! Thanks!

I've changed mine using this video http://www.carcarekiosk.com/video/2008_Chevrolet_Avalanche_LT_5.3L_V8/lights/headlight which also helped a lot (especially when taking the headlight casing out at the right angle).

Looking forward to doing this.  You know, next year when it is warmer!

I'll probably do it when I get new tires on the 20s [from my 02] for the recent purchase.

Seems like painters tape mentioned will be a key on that bumper...

Looks like a pain, can't wait !  ;)

DanGTO if you just wanna change out the DRL's to ambers, get a set of 3157/4157 NALL (make sure to get long life) bulbs, come to the Holiday Dinner... and I can swap them out for you real easy (skinny little circus freak arms)

If you can't make it, I live 5 minutes from the bridge and am over in the D at least once a week for fuel and groceries...
maybe a mini modding session?

(It would also give me a great excuse to drool over the GXP!!)

Agree that it's a great write-up - Thanks!

BUT, I cannot understand how GM could go from a great setup like in the 06 and earlier (pull 2 pins, pop the light out, replace bulb and slide everything back together in 2 minutes) to this ridiculous setup. I never had a vehicle that made it this difficult to replace ANY bulb!
