2003 2500 Gas Mileage

I'm very close to buying my first AV. I currently own a Dodge 2500 4x4, and am considering an AV 2500. I've heard that the gas mileage on the 2003's was supposed to be improved. Has anyone noticed this? I know gas mileage is not a huge concern when buying a 2500, but I am getting 12 mpg on my Dodge and hate to buy something with less gas mileage. Thanks in advanced.

Got my 2003 2500 Av yesterday. I've got 520 miles on it now and I've put 40 gallons through for a grand total of 13MPG. Supposedly the mileage improves after the first few tankfulls.

Thanks for the reply. 13 on the first 500 miles isn't too bad! TO change the topic, how do you like XM radio?

The XM radio is a lot like cable TV. 100 or so channels but a lot of them are junk you'd never listen to. (Unless you're really fluent in Spanish and such.) But there are still enough good ones that there's always something good to listen to. I set about 8 presets on the long drive home from the dealer and between them there's pretty well always something good. My friend and I both agree it's pretty sweet. A 9 hour drive home and I didn't reach for the CDs once.

Anyone else driving a 2003 2500??? Like to get as much input as possible! :B:

I got 9.5, 11.2 and 11.5 mpg so far. The last tank was about 75% highway. Jason must be either using magic gas or have 2WD. ??? I was hoping to get 11 to 14 but it doesn't look like that's going to happen. I'm still pleased with the truck. :B:

You all are equalling my milleage on my 2500HD and I've got a $2500 dollar transmission. All that power does come at a cost. 19 mpg looks mighty good in this 1500.

After 4500 mi on the bish, the most I've averaged so far is 16.5. After putting on the weathertechs bug shied and window vents, My last tank was down to 15.5
I would LOVE to get near 18 or 19mpg!

Looks like dvd_rules is driving a 1500 with 4:10's. I just rolled 1000 miles and have been averaging 12.5 with equal amounts of highway and in town. I'm hopeing it gets better than that. I had a 2001 Yukon XL 2500 with the 8.1 in it and got about 14.5 in that. The Avalanche should get the same or better. :B:

Don't know about the 03 but my 02 2500 now gets 13 after 12000 miles and a k&n filter and stainless gibson exhaust but it also has 4:10 gears. I drove from Michigan to fla. and back it was 1500 miles each way used 230 gal of fuel round trip.

:eek:HAVE THE 2002 2500 AVA-- 10.3 MPG AVERAGE

HIGHWAY AT 70 MPH WE GET 13.8 AND THE AVA HAS 10,000 MILES ON IT -=--IT ALSO JUST STARTED TO BURN OIL--NOT GOOD

WE BOUGHT THE AVA FOR THE GRUNT AND TOWING A 7000 LBS TRAILER ---TOWING GETS 9.6 MPG DEPENDING ON THE TERRAIN AND WIND---TOW SPEED 60 MPH

NOT ALL THAT BAD?

WE HAVE THE 3:73 REAR END

Ive got a 2002, 2500 series with 19k on the clock. Average is 10 mpg in the city, 13 on the hwy. My buddy gets 20 in his Diesel Excursion. A diesel Av would be nice!!

My 2002 2500 I get 11.5 in town and 13.7 or so on the highway, We'll see how the new engine does when it gets put in, should be in the next couple of weeks. I have 4.10 rear gear also. From what I have read the 8.1's with the 4.10 actually get a little better mileage than the 3.73 as odd as that sounds.

My new 2500 got 6-7 mpg on the last fill up. It is the shop right now to have it checked out. I'll keep everyone posted on the results.

After 3000 mi I now get 10 in town and 14 to 16 on the hwy dependent on speed. I have a 3.73. My milage is going up as the miles accumulate
