I just read this... Hopefully they don't know what they're talking about because the only way I can drive a truck this big in NY is WITH cladding to save me from all the door dings... Say it ain't so!

"The truck will not have the controversial gray cladding that the original SUV had."

Man, that will not make me happy. I also drive mine in New York and like not having to worry about door dings. :E:

May be forced to hang on to my "05" until the realize their mistake. Maybe by "08" or "09".

Humm that sucks I guess I will have to buy an 06.  It also says power rear window which it cool but I like being able to leave my mid-gate down with the window in place with the power windows you will not be able to do that.

That is a big benefit. The power window is cool, but likewise, most times that my midgate is down, my window is in place.

No cladding, no Av.. Unless there's some spray-on Rhino-liner type of alternate that's acceptable.

I don't like the roll-down window idea at all, I keep mine in with the gate down, quite often. `Wouldn't go for that at all, unless they made it "unlatchable" from the roll-down mechanism.

My next vehicle may be a Silverado 1500 Crew Cab considering the Av's are going to look just like then less the sail pannels I could save 5-7,000 bucks buy buying one of those. :cautious:  I love the AV but for how much they are selling new for and if they look just like a silverado why not save some money..  :cautious:

Hey all,

So, basically they are turning the Avalancha into a Silverado Crewcab with a midgate.   No cladding, and I would bet that it will have the WBH frontend.... which is in my opinion, cladding aside a big mistake.  The WBH front end looks pretty much like a Silverado, or Suburban...  The front end on a cladded version had style and was no way mistakable for anything else.
A power midgate is cool for the SUV soccermom's.  Everyone I've talked to likes having the window in and the midgate down.  That is part of the versatility...

Looks like, with work and all, I'll be looking for a used 05 or 06 with cladding, instead of the new 07, I was planning for.

I could plan for a new 08 or 09....  I doubt they'll realize their mistake, tho.    Maybe if we ask nicely....

I just sent Chevy the following message at the link below:

http://www.chevrolet.com/contactus/emailus/index.jsp

I am eagerly awaiting the 2007 Chevy Avalanche, but have been reading several internet sites that say the 2007 will not be available WITH body hardware (cladding). Is this true? I love the Avalanche, but will not consider buying another one unless I can get Body Hardware (cladding) on it.

The truck is way too big to park in my area without door ding protection that the cladding offers. The cladding is also what got me interested in it in the first place.

Please let me know if this is true or not so that I can consider whether I should wait to buy an Avalanche or whether I should start to consider alternatives like Ford.

Thanks,
Josh

Maybe thats how it will work.  They have to know one of the best things about the Av is leaving the window in and the gate down

Why?  It's not like Ford will offer a cladded version by then.

Guys, this has been a long time coming. And I will say again what I have said every time it has been talked about in the past. Go ahead. Get rid of th cladding. It garauntees I will never purchase another newer model Av. And it also makes my truck rarer than it already is. I don't mind if GM wants to turn my truck into an instant classic. More power to em. I'll keep my '02 and keep turning heads in it as long as I own it.

Question.  Even if they make the window "unlatchable" from the roll-down mechanism, will it be similar enough to the current setup or will there need to be changes in how the window secures to the frame with the midgate down?
In any case, to keep the window in place with the midgate down, it would just make more sense to keep it as is, and not make it a "power window".

Just two more cents.

I'm surprized this is the first you heard about this...

That article has already been posted by me and a few others.

Honestly, it was just saber rattling on my part. If they don't offer a cladded version by the time I need to put my monster out to pasture, then I'll probably just go with a regular car or minivan or something. The Av is the only truck I've ever been interested in owning. I just wanted to let them know they'd lose a customer over it and that I won't just buy a different GM vehicle instead.

They are going to fix the Biggest Mistake making a Silverado AV

I may be in the minority here, but I never considered an AV until the WBH was introduced. I like the clean look better.
I test drove a few cladded ones, but the WBH sold me...twice.

I'm just the other side of the fence. Its the original design of the vehicle that sold me on it. 3 things make up the look of the vehicle to me, the cladding, the original front end, and the crouched stance. Now don't think I am saying that WBH's aren't Av's or anything. I am just saying those are the top three things that sold me on the vehicle. I enjoy the fact that the longer I have my truck the rarer its going to get because GM made a poor decision. The sooner the better in my book because mine gets more and more unique with every day that passes. Rarity means it'll appreciate in value faster. So hurry on up and make my first year release Av a positive investment.

I was in the same boat.  However, once I compraed the cladded and WBH side by side, I preferred the more unique look of the cladded.

My wife fell in love with the Av when she saw the first one in at the dealers. She loves the cladding and so do I. One thing that I don't like about the WBH and caddy versions are the lack of corner steps in the rear bumper. I had three Silverados before my Av and the step sure helps getting in and out of the high back end. Plus my wife is short and that's the only way she can climb up there when trying to put something back there.

I love both, although I have a scantily clad one myself.  I have cladded envy.  I see the front end of the cladded and  :E:.  Corner steps are great too  :E:.  I think the choice should be left to indivduals on cladded vs naked. Power rear window sounds cool.

No cladding, no dice. Power rear window as an option wouldn't hurt.

Every one wants to fight here let me put it this way...People state
OMG, talk about overreacting  It's the exact same truck when you drive it.
Eventualy all mistakes are corrected
and
No cladding. No mistake. That's the way it is.
Well that is there view.  That is why the 2003-2006 model of Avalanche is the best, if you like cladding then get cladding, if you like a WBH then buy a WBH

just my 2 cents
