Notice 2024 EV Silverado has a mid-gate; is it the Next Avalanche?

For me an EV would only be for commuting to work and short trips around town. In a truck, muscle car or any vehicle with performance associated with it, I like an engine rumble at idle and a roar at WOT! All the mechanical sounds from an internal combustion engine have always been music to my ears. People have told me there is something wrong with me. They may be right. My brother has a Ford Ranger with the I4 ecoboost engine. I asked him how it sounds under heavy throttle. He reluctantly admitted it sounds like a sewing machine.(n)

Exactly.

Hmm, no bed panels and related water management system. Is that optional or did they do away with it altogether?

I like the design but I am not a EV fan.
I believe dealerships lead to the fall of the Avalanche. They ordered what they wanted for their lots and didn't order many Avalanches compared to Silverado's so in turn they didn't sell as many Avalanches and caused the numbers to decline. I had friends go to the dealer to buy an Avalanche but the few they had sold so they had to settle for a pick-up. Dealerships also stopped ordering the cladded versions, body side plastic, when the alternate without body side plastic version came out because the cladding was "not normal" and that killed the cladded version. Maybe I am prejudice because I own a 2002 cladded Av but I don't think the newer ones look as good/rugged.
I couldn't afford a new vehicle regardless of the design but I think Chevrolet should have brought back the Avalanche name for this EV, and I think they should make a gas and diesel version of this truck, too.
.

I asked a friend how many recharging stops they would have to make if they took their Tesla from San Francisco to Wilmington NC. They have a calculator in the Tesla app.

The answer was....18 stops to recharge. Sign me up.

I wonder what that equates to time & $$$ wise.
The range(s) of my car(s) / truck are on the 420-500 miles.. 6 maybe 7 QUICK fill ups.. would do it. Of course If I was pulling a heavy trailer, it would be around 10 stops.

I like everything about it EXCEPT an EV truck makes zero practical sense to me.
The range on the EV Silverado is actually very impressive. All things being fair, most Avalanches aren't used for heavy towing and at least from the people I've talked to most use them as a family/pleasure vehicle with the benefit of the bed & midgate being available as needed- so realistically an EV Avalanche makes a good amount of sense.

Can I borrow $100K?

To be honest, I couldn't care less what they name the thing.

Also being totally honest, I never have and most likely never will be able to afford any vehicle, regardless of it's name or being electric or fossil fueled or anything else for that matter, that costs as much as these new vehicles.

As some have said, maybe if I won the lottery.

But, I'm here to tell you, if I happen to win big in the lottery, I won't be driving myself around any more anyways.

I can also tell you that if I was gifted one of these through a raffle or a kind person's generosity, I would be more than happy to drive it.

All things considered, I think they are pretty cool vehicles and they would more than easily fit into my style of driving and current needs.

But, the harsh reality of the matter is the likelihood of me actually being able to own one or even seeing one locally in my smaller town, is pretty low.

But, if one happens to land in my driveway, I'll happily drive the crap out of it.

If (and I say IF) it was the MOST important thing in my life, I guess I could find a way to buy a modern (way overpriced) truck.. BUT it isn't the MOST important thing in my life, a nice home, food on the table and the like weigh heavily against spending these kind of $$ for a mere machine to drive around.. I was getting gas the other day, the guy next to me had an F250 w/ the Tremor package, I asked what the tremor package entailed.. he told me about it (mostly suspension stuff) and that he got a great deal on it for "ONLY" $60K,, because they go for $80K now.. welp.. no (new) Tremor for me..

Even if I won the lottery I don’t think I would want it. I can’t stand all the gadgets and gizmos on vehicles these days. We rented a Jeep Grand Cherokee on vacation last month and all the so called safety features were more distracting than they were helpful. The dash changed its view seemingly every time we started it. We had to go through multiple screens just to dim the thing at night so it wouldn’t blind me. The blind spot monitors stayed lit and had a code saying it needed servicing. You can keep all that crap. And I can just imagine the level of techno weenie stuff on this Silverado makes the Jeep seem like it has none.

I love the utilitarian features of the midgate, etc. but not so much the techno stuff. I guess I’m like Joe Walsh - “I am analog guy living in a digital world.”
