22 Or 24 Inch Rims....

Hey guys i was wondering if anyone had BIGGER rims for styleing either 22 or 24......i'm undedcided which one i should get >:D

I think 24's would be WAY too big - just wouldn't look right... nevermind the cost for everything.

22's are up there... Look at tbyrnes Suburban, I think that's what's on it.

20's are probably the best price wise, and for all around use.

24's would cost you about $5-6k, and your choices are very limited.
22's are starting to become more available.
20's are getting to be affordable.
18's if you need load capacity.

I think 22's will give you a very harsh ride, and if you hit a bad pothole, watchout for tire AND wheel damage. ?24's WILL be worse.

IMO 24's are really meant for show use only. ;D

see this thread for 20s and 22s pics--> Separated at Birth?

I have a dilema myself. I can either go with the 22's which willset me back a pretty penny due to the high milage I do. Or go with a set of 20's and put the Eagle II tires that are really cheap. Tire rack sells them for $ 136 compared to a 22 which can run in the high 200 or even low 300. I have 2 pics of the wheel option I may decide to do. It's kindo goofy the way it was done, but you'll get the point.

I agree with LandHO on the issues.

With the 22/24's you will run into load issues and possible wheel damage. It is also nice to have some meat on your tires in case you ever want to go to the beach or drive over something. I have seen a lot of guys going back to the shop with damage from hitting curbs etc the day that I bought my 20's.

You can also use the money save for some other "must-have" mods ;D

Here's one of my rare daytime pics:

The new "Rhine" 20x8.5 wheels by Epic Precision Alloys are wrapped by P285/50R20 Goodyear Eagle GTII tires.

I would go with 20's for all the reasons I listed before. High mileage probably means you will be traveling on all kinds of roads. potholes and rough ride are the enemies of 22s....

jewvalanche I like the way you did those pics....Very good idea.....

IMO I think trucks look better with a bit of rubber on the rims. That is why I will probably stick with the original tires until they wear out... after that, I might get some new rims in the same size. Just haven't found any that says "buy me"

Well you have to remeber i'm going to be a 17 year old GIRL... im not going to be doing any towing any off roading not really far driving....and i want the hottest wheels in school....then all those lil imports :D:

Well if that's the case, I suggest you pickup the latest issue of Street Trucks or Truckin Magazine. ?

Then in a couple of weeks ... You will be able to join our Special Support Group for MODaholics ? >:D

I wonder if I just did something wrong? ?

I have to agree (again) with Goo on this one. You need some rubber on those wheels. I have a set of 19's on my Porsche and as you can see from the picture I might as well be using rubber bands for tires.

I have to get my wheels balanced every 1,000 miles and once a year need to have the wheels taken apart and made round again. A very expensive maintenance nightmare!

If money is no issue then go for it. But I thought you should know that the bigger the wheel, the more $$$ for maintenance you will need to spend!

rocknz...consider the Falken line...they have proven to be pretty good tires for the long haul.... :B:

Tirerack has a killer deal on 22" ASA for $ 239 each. Then you can put on the Khumo 305 for $ 270 each. Now that is a good deal. It looks like I'm going with the 20" and the Good Year 285/50/20 just because of the high milage I do. But I am going to go for the BBS wheel. Even though the wheel is $ 400, but it is really made well and it's hubcentric. You need to look out for lugcentric and hubcentric wheels. The 6 lug bolt pattern on the new trucks is hubcentric, which means all the pressure, weight and load is on the hub. Otherwise you need to purchase a ring adapter to install a lugcentric wheel on the truck. The high dollar wheels are all lugcentric. The BBS RW was especially built for the GMC truck and it is a real sharp wheel.

I think you guys are missing the boat...

She should get a lift and not big wheels but BIG tires, and then she drive right over the top of the Ricers >:D

17 years old with an Av?? ? ? ?Dang... ?

That's cool... ?
Try 16 ... she'll be 17 next year on June 18!!! ;D

I am all for modding as the next guy..

*Roof Rack
*Brush Guard
*Steps
*Mud Guards
*Back headrest mod
*Front wheel well cladding
*(Future) Rear wheel well cladding
*(Future) Line-X bed
*(Future) Line-X all cladding

..but why do this with an AV? Surely not with a Z71. Maybe a Z66. (Sorry, forgot which model you have.)

I mean, you aren't going to be doing the "Fast and the Furious" with an AV.

(Well maybe goo929 with the logo "running with the ricers")

I can think of a few things someone could use all of that modding cash for like gas for the tank, nice stereo, and money to go toward college.

Man, an AV would made a nice beer/munchie running truck in college. >:D

You think not but being in high school and having a rig that will tow, go off road and carry things goes a long way. As long as you aren't abused you are the one towing boats for other people you know you will always be invited to all of those beach parties.

When I was in high school (late 1970's) I have a Chevy 1/2 ton that I had converted to a 3/4 ton. It also had speakers you could remove and place exterior to the truck. (This was way before audio mods were popular.)

I was invited to spend a long weekend at a beach cabin by the high school drill team seniors.

I carried all of the firewood there for the bonfire and got to parade them up and down the beach as they were sitting in the bed of my truck. We would stop every so often, put the speakers out and play their songs while they did a 5-10 routine. (I usually stopped near my friends in high school. >:D )

Nothing happened as there were two mothers and one father of the drill team members there. I also had to sleep downstairs in my truck. ?:C:

I guess they knew me. >:D

 ???

Amanda, did you pick up something from one of those get-rich-fast infomercials with that young-ish tweaked out crackhead?

You must not have read it before, but it was a gift from her parents.

Darn! My mother drives a black Z66 that I basically take care of, but I'll never have something quite as expensive for some time....Maybe I should start asking for a nice Christmas gift now!

I just wonder if her parents would adopt me... they wouldn't have to buy me a car, but they could pay for all the mods I want to do >:D

Here are some photos I received from snowlide ...

blackav103.jpg
The wheels are Oasis Titans 24" X 10".
The tires are BF Goodrich G-force TA 305/35/24.

blackav098.jpg
Compare these to snowslide's Z-71 17's ;D

The 17" wheels on the Avalanche look puny. ?20's look like what should have been put on in the first place. 22's & 24's are way cool, but dents and damage from potholes are a real concern as the shoulder height of the tire decreases. ?I've used www.tirerack.com and its a great site. ?You can actually see a view of the Avalanche, change it to the color of yours, and then see and print it with any of the wheels or tires they offer! ?Problem with the larger rims is tire choice becomes extremely limited.

I've bought tires from tirerack, and UPS rolls them to the door taped together in pairs. ?Have a local store install them and you can save some good bucks.

By the way, I did some mathematical extrapolation and discovered that by the year 2050, rims will be 60" in diameter with tires having an aspect ratio of 03! ? ??? Might as well get the 24's now, because they'll be puny and passe when the 30's roll out! ? ;D

Definitely missed it...

Wow... a 36-38,000 dollar truck as a gift? ?:cautious: ?That blows my mind... ? ?Congrats. ?:)

----

Those 24's look better than I thought they would... although I'm still more of a fan of 20's or 22's at the max.

What do 24's run.. about a grand a wheel? ?I've seen tires around $600 for these.. so, ummm... 6,400 for tires and wheels?? ? :p
