Some buddies and I went mountain biking at Soquel Demonstration Forest in Santa Cruz on Saturday and thought I'd post some pics of my AV loaded with 5 mountain bikes and all of our gear.

I'm using a Yakima rack (w Q30 clips) attached directly to the bed covers with the BOA bike mounts. Four bikes fit on the mounts and the fifth (as well as all of the front wheels and other gear) goes in the bed. The bedslide is a godsend for this. Highly recommended.

I have been officially nominated as the official transporter for our bike group and a lot of other bikers came up and asked me about the setup.

This is the perfect transport vehicle! Everyone was comfortable and we had all of our gear secured and rain-protected.

I have been there once or twice before I tore up my knee. Once I'm back to 110% maybe I can join up with you guys sometime. I love to mountain bike. I got a few bikes myself, each is setup for a different style of biking. (downhill, cross, bmx, Mountain, yadda yadda) Anyways, looks like you had alot of fun!

What a cool set up. I took 4 bikes and 4 guys MT biking with no problem. We just threw the bikes in the back, but I'd agree these are the best outdoors vehicles.

TekSavy,
Could you share some additional info with us? I'd like to know model numbers for the bike rack and clips, and possibly any pictures of how it attaches. It looks like you have a very cool set up.

Thanks,
Av XXX

Thanks to this group, I got the idea for the bike rack over the covers. In fact, I think scarver233 actually did the legwork to find part numbers, etc.

The only downside to this setup is the cost. Usually the Yakima racks are not discounted and the setup like mine normally costs around $550. However, I did some serious research online and found a place that can get you my setup for around $430, delivered, no tax, no del charges.

I plan on posting a bunch of details about the setup (including purchase locations) with pictures, but haven't had a chance to yet. If you need the info now, lemme know and I'll post.

Cool... It'll be great to ride with you. SDF is by far my favorite place to ride. We are so lucky to live here. (Then again, we pay for it with high prop values.)

Anyway, here is the trail we took, if you are interested Bigred.

Hey! I've ridden Soquel when I used to live there. Awesome trails in that area. Now I'm searchin' for the perfect ride in North Texas. Definately different terrain here.

If you don't already have most of the Yakima parts to make this bike rack setup work for you check out my rack on the Custom AV Bed Rack thread. The final prototype should be back from the metal shop tomorrow and I'll post final pics then. Should cost half what the full Yakima setup would cost. Less with patented CAFCNA discount. :)
