Does anyone have any information about this unit that will be available in the 2003 AV? This is one of my biggest pet peeves about my AV. I would love to stuff one of these in my 2002. Has GM used this unit in any other models previously? I also own a 2001 Pontiac Aztek with a 6-disc changer and from the limited pictures of the 2003 AV, it looks similar, but is not the same model. The one in my Aztek is larger than the unit in the 2002 AV so I dropped trying to make it fit. They list that the dash has been upgraded for 2003 AV but, it doesn't look that different from what I've seen.

This is the description of the UC6 Sound System:

ETR AM/FM stereo with 6-disc CD changer, includes seek-and-scan, digital clock, auto-tone control, Radio Data System (RDS) and Bose speaker system (includes 6-speakers, Bose amplifier and Bose Subwoofer).

It comes standard on the 2003 AV's with bucket seats.

Bad news ... it is a double din unit. ?Looks like a lot would have to be replaced on the current dash (trim, climate control, wiring for trip computer, etc.) ?to get this to work. ?Not to mention the other parts of the current sound system that would need to be upgraded to do this new head unit justice. ?

Anyone else agree or disagree?

I think Goo is on the right path. I can't see how they could get a double din to fit without some cosmetic changes.

BOSE stuff is usually proprietary (Porsche uses them) so you would need to change the AMP and related modules. Not sure how this would behave with Onstar. and since there are more speakers and a subwoofer, probably a heck of a lot of wiring to squeeze it in.

My guess is it would be cheaper to go aftermarket. Nakamichi makes a cool in-dash CD changer.

goo,
Thanks. I was afraid that it may be a double din unit like the one in my Aztek.

carrerarod,
I love the idea of the Nakamichi deck MB-75. It is exactly what I was looking for. I totally have zoned out and forgot about Nakamichi stuff. It's not widely sold here. I was originally looking at a model from Blaupunkt which is a changer only, not a complete head unit. This is a much cleaner solution. The price for the MB-75 looks like it will probably be the same as either a new OEM deck, or a Blaupunkt head/changer combo. Do you have any experience/opinions with Nakamichi auto equipment?

Thanks

I didn't have that specific model but had a nakamichi in my Porsche Boxster. Never had any problems and a very nice system. I agree with you, not many people carry them. I do know of a shop/dealer in West Los Angeles. If you want a connection, blast me an email.
