A/C recharging

I was wondering if anyone could tell me which service port I would use to recharge the A/C on a '02 AV. I see two ports and don't want to try the wrong one.  Thanks.

It's hard to discribe but I do believe the valves are different sizes, for that same reason. Check to see if the nozzle fits only one of the valves

that's what I thought to, and I think it's the larger one he's looking for, but I'm not positive

Me too

I think it's the smaller one, most refill kits that come with the hose attachted will only fit over the right one (somewhat idiot proof.)

the one nearest the DRYER...

Low pressure....

how do you know it needs a recharge?
if not sure better to have it serviced properly so as not to damage more parts

Thanks for the help guys.  The valve closest to the dryer was the one the hose fit and is now blowing out cold air.  I've only owned the AV since February and this is the fist time that I have tried to run the A/C.  Maybe it has a leak somewhere, but I guess time will tell.

Thanks again

no have it leak tested  to find leak so you do not have to keep recharging..

Just purchased a gauge and manifold set at Harbor Fright Yesterday ($29.95) haven't used it yet but will soon as i get some 1lb cans of 134 freon just in case.

Buying the cans of 134 is a good idea. Especially if you're living in California where they are trying to ban them from consumer use.

If you do not have a leak detector, you can try looking for a wet spot or dirt accumulation.  Check around the front of the compressor where the pulley bolts on and also check the condensor, 2 of the more common areas for leaks

System should be properly recovered, evacuated and charged to avoid further problems and to comply with EPA regulations.

Does anyone know what the a/c pressures are when the engine is NOT running and WHEN the engine is running is running with the a/c is on
                                                                        ??? ??? ???

Pressures are only checked with compressor running... and vary depending on outside air temp and engine RPM.

most tests are done at idle..

there is no listing of pressure with engine off as it is meaningless to a AC tech
