You people have made me a fanatic. I spent a good deal of my Sunday afternoon doing a few of the cheaper but very cool mods. I upgraded the DRL's, fog lights, and did the reflective tape mod.

Here is my truck in its unmodified form

I replaced the white DRL's with Sylvania 4157NALL amber bulbs.

I replaced the dim fog lights with some much brighter Sylvania 885 bulbs. I started to go with 889 Bulbs like everyone else on here, but they were only 35watts. The 885 Bulbs were 50watts

Now this is where it gets interesting. Here is the boring side of the truck.

I had to take this picture at night so forgive how I had to lighten it. I used National brand Red Reflective Tape. It came in rolls 1 1/2" x 50". This mod was inspired by REDC.

I borrowed my wife's cutting board and used a exacto knife to do all this . It reflects pretty nicely.

Did the same to the driver's side door.....

......and the passenger side door.

Not a bad day's modding for a guy with almost no money. I bought $30 in supplies for this and had plenty of tape left over.

Looks great. ?Did you use a template to cut the tape for the reflective tape mod?

Yep. It made it painless. I can't remember the guy's name who made the template. I tried looking it up, but the site is crawling right now. The template is posted in the original Reflective Tape Mod thread.

ironic Massive or master or something with a M made the decal template file.....look in a long thread about reflective tape mods it is in there I beleive.

That's a great mod, looks good and inexpensive. ?So what is wrong with spending a Sunday improving the look of the av with minimal cost? ?I reakon it's a good way to spend a weekend.

Must have just been a mod type of day for us here in the south. I took 20 minutes in between mowing and got me a (liquid refreshment) aughhhhh
Pulled out the driver side headlight, removed both bulbs. Pulled the yellow wire out of the loom and spliced in a 10" wire and tied it into a ground.
Took out my high beam hyper whites and replaced with factory bulbs on high side. Left the silver stars on the low side. put both bulbs back in. reinstalled housing.
turned on lights, on high all 4 stay on,,,,,,,,,back to the yard..........Thanks to autoworker for help on the hi-4 work and plans, just modified it a little bit. I was scared to take out the big fuse box, just went around it.
Thanks again to Autoworker for the information.
We used to have to buy a kit to make all lights stay on........

Wife did not even know i stopped to work on the truck >:D

Looks great!

I think I am going to do some kinda mod when the sun comes up now ;D

Looks great Byron. Doing those letters has to take a lot of patience and time :B:
One of these days I'm gonna use a black paint marker on mine

I'm glad to see you're not online now goo. Sleep is good... ;)

It really did not take that long. The first one did because I was being paranoid and cautious. I would cut one letter, walk out, and stick it. On the two sides I just taped down a bunch of letters to my wife's cutting board and went to town cutting. I did the whole group in less than half an hour. It really was easy. Once you do the first one, you learn a few tricks on how to cut it.

I'm not sure a black marker would work very well.

Who said anything about sleep?

It was lonely around the site so I was surfing and doing some research on some future MODs >:D

Byron (and others), is the reflective tape failry flat or is it rigdged like duct tape? Just trying to get an impression of how the tape surface is. Also, those of you who have done the reflective tape mod, how has it held up through a washing or two?

Jamie, curious and wanting to do this mod on my Av!

The tape is very flat, smooth, and glossy. It comes in small rolls and you have to peel paper off the back to expose the adhesive. Its fairly stiff too.

Cool! thanks for the info.
Note to self: by a roll of reflective tape on way home from work ?;D

Jamie

Be sure to check the length. Mine were 1 1/2" x 50". I used one roll and started on another. Also, it would not hurt to pick up some of that blue painters masking tape. It'll hold the template and the Reflective Tape down to your cutting board without leaving any residue on them. Plus it peels up easier.

A good sharp exacto knife is also a must! :0:

Happy cutting!!!! :B:

Smooth tape.....clean cladding first then I wiped with lighter fluid to remove any grease, oil, etc.....Then I stuck on.....

It has held up to 1 washing and about 20 rain storms....no difference....Cheap and easy mod......Well worth th $2 I spent.......Take time cutting out letters for a great look.
