A question for those with the front bench seat

What do you use that big hump between middle seat and dash for? Does anyone make a nice console type thing that can sit there? It's such a nice big space that it screams out for some sort of storage unit, especially if you were to take out the stock cup holders.

My mom had an '88 Taurus with a similas area in front of the seat, and she had a friend of hers make a beautiful wooden catch-all with cup-holders and everything. I'm fairly handy; I may do something like that. Or else swipe hers, she got a new car and doesn't have room for it now. A few bits of hooky velcro and it should be good to go. I'll let you know what happens. With pics!

This is why I don't like the buckets with the consol, that don't give you the room to stretch out your legs under the glove box on a long ride! Jim

I bought a Chevy mat just to cover the carpet area there, but I want the third seat functional so, nothing else on the floor.
I did however install the extra cup holders where that big flat piece on the dash is. One of the best mods for the money I've ever done, and of course because it is a Chev part, looks like it was always there.

My uncle has a nice one in is van, wood top, trays,cupholders. It sits up high too for easy reach, yes it's custom made and removable ! throw it in back

I also installed the Chevy Cup Holder under the lower middle dash area. It comes in Tan or Charcoal I believe. It flips down and out to hold two drinks. I plan on building a little shallow box for the hump to hold binoculars or something. Velcro could keep it in place.

i did the cup holder mod as well.. but a little differently.. i gutted it.. the cup holders on the floor work for me, so i didn't need a second set..

i'm planning (well, i have been for over a year now ) to put a screen in there.. i just have to make a custom bezel for it and just haven't gotten around to it.. until i do, it makes a good catch all for small things and is accessable when i'm carrying 6 people in the av, where the console isn't because it's in the upright position..

I have one of those cheap coolers that I take my lunch in...from Wal Mart...the one that is soft on outside with hard plastic inside and has a carrying strap. Anyway, it fits perfectly there. Works great on trips, too as it holds beer errr drinks and is right there in reach.

Doesn't interfere with cup holders. I have gotten used to how low the cupholders are and it doesn't bother me so much anymore.

P.S. no I do not drink beer while driving.

I had to look long and hard before I was able to find a black '04 Z66 with the bench seat ......got the only one available from Ventura to San Diego (So. California), just so my girl can sit next to me like in the old days......although she hasn't sat there in awhile ...... me thinks its time for a someone new.......
