AC Compressor and HP!?

Ok I have a 2003 5.3 z71.

Everytime I turn the AC, I hear the engine pulling harder and making a larger sound like the engine is trying much harder when the AC is on.

I think it is the compressor doing this.

But I also think the truck is losing torque power because of it.

Does anyone have the same feel?

The AC does draw horsepower from the engine.......IT does this on all vehicles...

Ever get in a little fot nopper car with a tiny 4 banger engine and turn on AC....the darn thing sound like they gonna die from the load.....

Be greatful for the V8 as it can handle the AC load without muchproblem

I notice a decreased throttle response while AC is running.
On cooler days (yes I know that makes a difference too) it just seems to run smother.
As soon as the air kicks in I am disapointed as I have to lead foot it around to get it going?
Need serviced?
Let me know..

Yes, the air pulls a lot of horses 'off line'
I notice it even more now with the supercharger. I can tell if the AC is on or not without looking at the controls. Can tell by foot Also drops my gas milage.

It's been 90+ here for over 2 weeks, so the air has been on any time after 10AM, has given me a real good test of the AC.

One good point with our trucks, thr A/C automatically shuts off at wide open throttle!

WOT is defined as a throttle position greater than 90%. This is also the point where "power enrichment" is activated. It's kind of like the accelerator pump on a 4 barrel.

I don't like having to floor the commencer to get extra power, most of the time it's overkill. I've tricked the computer into thinking that WOT happens at 31% throttle position. I found that most of my sensible driving takes place at 30% or below. Now if I want to pull away quickly or pass someone without looking like a miscreant I can give it 50% throttle. A/C drops out, power enrichment comes on with only a sociable roar from the Magnaflow.
