I did a search and looked back to December but can't find this - and maybe I'm just not looking in the right places - but here is the situation...

I set the AC on my 2003. If I turn off the truck, park, then turn it back on, the settings are still there - exactly how I left them. Perfect, thats what i want.

BUT, if I turn off the AC (while driving, say i want to put down the windows) and then decide to turn it back on during the same trip - its back to the default! Nothing is where I left it, so, anyone got any ideas? Am I turning it back on with the wrong button?

Anyone got any ideas?

Are you hitting the "Auto" button or the "Snow Flake" button? If memory serves without running out to my AV, Auto returns to previous settings where as hitting the Snow Flake makes it think you want to manually over-ride the settings.

May not be right, just pulling it from memory.

I've tried hitting all the buttons - my preferred "default" setting is one bar on the fan, no AC, and set at 62 degrees.

I'll try the "auto" button again, maybe I didn't press it (???). I dunno know - just would love to not have to reset it after each time I turn it off!
Thanks!!

Nope, the "auto" button don't do it. Sends it back to AC on and vents to my feet (temperature stays the same though!).

Guess its a small price to pay for no other issues - will still never buy another truck!

Today on my way home from work I thought about your post. I have a 03 Z66 Av with the Automatic Climate Control. (Just to make sure we have the same system) My system was set on automatic with the temp on 65 and it was blowing from the dash. My fan was on high speed since the temp was around 80. I hit the off button and waited a moment and hit the Auto button. It returned to exactly the same settings.

I then turned it off again and waited another moment. I then hit the snow flake button. It too returned to the same settings. Hitting the snowflake button actually turned it on to automatic mode, not manual. Hitting it twice would turn it to manual.

Hope this helps,
Reidan

Thanks -

Question (I think I figured it out), do you have the air on (i.e. is your snowflake off)? I think cause I just use the vents, and not the manmade air, thats where the change up.

I noticed that if I do have the manmade air on (snowflake not showing), it does come back to kinda where it was. So, I "think" that is what it is.

Thanks for the feedback!

Ahhhh, you just want fresh air and not AC! Hitting the Auto button will trigger the AC (or heater depending upon the temp) and not fresh air. To get fresh air you hit the Snow Flake button until the light panel shows a snow flake with a slashed line through it.

I have never tried to see if it would remember those settings when powered off and back on before. Will give it a try this afternoon.

Anyone know how to get the Recirculate mode to stay turned on? Every time I restart my car the mode is turned back off. Why would this feature not be remembered? I had the same thing with my 2000 Nissan Pathfinder with electronic AC.

I'm just curious (After all it's your truck..), but why would you want to re-circulate the air, except in specific situations (initial cool of a sun-heated cab, or just-ran-over-a-skunk  )? And even in the initial cool situation the Auto mode calculates if that would be quicker and switches it on if it would...
As I said, I'm just curious, might be something new for me to learn... :D

Well I just read the car manual and it says recirculate will be used when needed confirming your assessment. I have never seen it ever come on in this vehicle or my Pathfinder that had electronic auto a/c. Recirculate is apparently inefficient.

When it is hot, I normally want the a/c blasting as much air out as possible. Recirculate in all the cars I have owned has always blasted out a significantly higher volume of air. The air always felt just as cool as fresh air, in fact, it felt cooler due to the higher volume of air coming out of the vents.

I suppose I just don't like setting something and it not remaining set even when auto is turned off.

Thanks for the reply. I should have read my manual more thoroughly.

I was out at lunchtime, and my AV was parked in the sun while I was away for about 20 minutes. I just leave the A/C on Auto. This thread made me look, and after about 3 seconds, the little light on the Recirculate button came on (not very bright, I wouldn't have noticed it if I wasn't looking). It went off again about two miles later...
