Hello all,

I just bought a 2003 Z66 in Arrival Blue, and I love it! This site is definitely for me, I'm a big fan ;D

Now, I'd like to add XM but I'm all confused about what parts I'd need. I'm pretty sure the 6 CD Changer that I have in dash supports XM, I guess I need a receiver and an anntena?

I really don't want any external wired remotes, or FM modulators. I'd like the install to be as close to what I'd get from the factory.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome aboard! ;D

Yes I believe you will need to get a reciever and a little stubby xm antenna. I would think the reciever would mount under one of your front seats, and you would just have some type of wired remote/display. I have no experience with Xm though, so I'm not much help :6:

Here is some news from GM concerning XM:

GM Expands Relationship With XM

September 17, 2002

General Motors Corp. is adding XM satellite radios in 23 vehicles for the 2003 model year, with advertising for the rollout to be handled by Interpublic Group of Cos.' Campbell-Ewald, Warren, Mich.

GM, an investor in XM, had offered the satellite radio service in its 2002 Cadillac Devilles and Sevilles. XM earlier this year had announced its radios would be available in GM's 2003 model-year vehicles including Buick Rendezvous, Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Cavalier, GMC Yukon, Oldsmobile Alero and Pontiac Aztek.

'Brand police'

Campbell-Ewald, GM's lead agency for its XM partnership, created a national TV spot, due out next month, for XM in the Chevrolet Cavalier and worked as "brand police" with Bcom3 Group's D'Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles, Troy, Mich., for an October TV spot for XM in the Pontiac Grand Am.

"Campbell-Ewald is directly involved with the XM/GM rollout project from an advertising perspective," said Chance Patterson, vice president of corporate affairs at XM Satellite Radio Holdings.

Omnicom Group's TBWA/Chiat/Day, Playa del Rey, Calif., will continue to handle consumer advertising to support XM's retail presence, Mr. Patterson said.

Scott Tappan, the manager at GM overseeing its XM partnership, said Campbell-Ewald is also "assisting" TBWA/Chiat/Day on some targeting and media buys.

XM is also available in American Isuzu Motors' Isuzu Axiom and Rodeo models. GM owns a 49% stake in Isuzu's Japanese parent, Isuzu Motors Ltd.

You indicate that you have a 2003 and the veh did not come with XM. It is an option on the 2003 model.

With the standard radio you will need the XM FM modulator. The Pioneer 903XM will do the job. This is the model I have in my AV. You tune your fm radio to 89.1 or one of the other freq's used for the modulator and then uste the supplied control head. I have this system in my AV and it works great. I think the XM is the better way to go than SIRIUS system. I would also stay away from the SONY modulator. Apparently their model has been discontinued and I believe they will be introducing a new model soon.

For what its worth...When I bought mine I looked at both (with and without). I was told the only way to get it was as a unit, in that the module was built in. Also the shark fin antenna has to be wired. They told it could be added later, but the entire head unit would have to be changed and the antenna wired.

Congrats on the 2003 AV purchase.

Get the XM, no matter what you have to do. You'll love it, as about 99.9% of the people here who have it do.

XM radio is really worth it.......That comedy channel is great!

I took my 03 to have XM installed and was told the same thing. You would need a aftermarket HU due to the fact that the factory GM HU would only house a factory GM receiver.
But I was also told that it would only be a matter or time before this plug adabter will be available to the public other than through GM.

Guess i'll wait.

HUH?

You should be able to get a XM that uses FM modulation and it work...or are you trying to get all GM parts?

Well, I personally wish to do it with the GM parts. I want it as close to factory install as possible. FM modulation just isn't an option for me, it never sounds good.

My plan is to wait until I can either order the factory stereo with XM/anntena and replace what I have. Or, see if an add on comes out that will take advantage of the current stereo.

Until then, I hold my breath and wait...

The new PIE device should work with the 03 radio and make it accept low level RCA type inputs...I have the GM9-AUX and it works on my 02...

Send JASON Pendulum an EMail as he now carries the product and maybe he can help....

then you can buy a SOny or other brand that has low level outputs......the sony has a stereo mini jack so then all you need is a cable adapter....

Forge, FWIW I would watch ebay, cuz I'm certain that someone will jettison a factory system from a GM eventually. I'm always amazed at the available parts for the careful watcher. Good Luck!
