Subwoofer

I think I found the PERFECT subwoofer location

I too got tired of the "where to put the subwoofer dilemma."

This past weekend I purchased a MTX Thunder T8104A 10 in. subwoofer. It's sitting right behind the driver's seat in a sub box with the the speaker pointing right at my butt.

It's being powered by a MTX Thunder 6152 amp; bridged, it's running a little over 300 watts.

I put about 7 feet of speaker wire on it, so when I want to fold down the midgate, I just move the speaker off the floor, fold the midgate down and the put the subwoofer on top. There's even enough room to move it to the front seat if need be.

I looked at all the solutions on this board and just didn't think I'd be happy with anything smaller that a full size 10 in. sub.

I might have been happy with 4 12's mounted on my midgate, but that might be a little overkill.

Good luck,
DrJ

Your AV didn't come with bass? mine did... ;D

Well this seems to be the hot topic for the month of July! There are several options that have been discussed but let me try to sum it up:

- JL Stealth Box w/10 inch sub located in the console. Very clean look but you lose your storage compartment and rear air.

- sub enclosure under rear seats. There is another member on this board working through the details with a specialist on the east coast. I am sure he will post pictures and details in the next week or so.

- The Qform products are an option. Did some research and asked a tuner friend of mine and he felt that it may be an option but I would not get the results I was looking for. Simply not enough room.

-You could go the custom route and have a box built in the rear cab. Many options here.

-And finally I think someone mentioned you can get a small bazooka sub to fit behind the rear seats.

Just keep in mind you will need to add an aftermarket amp if you are still using the OEM equip. Adding an amp will involve changing a bunch of other things like speaker wire. If you have onstar you will need an OS-1 and new external speakers, etc.

Ahhh.... Once again I'm thankful for saving my money and passing on Onstar.

Anyhow - You might want to start with upgrading the deck and door speakers while adding an amp and sub. I'm just about ready to start my project and will probably do a removeable enclosure with 2 - 10's to sit behind the bucket seats.

I'm currently running the same dual JL 10W6's that were in my Jeep. It's a pretty big box sitting on the floor in front of the rear seats. Makes Changing For A Dollar impossible.

My latest thought is this:
Get 2 of the new Blaupunkt 12" flat drivers and build two boxes behind the rear seats. These boxes would certainly be thin enough to fit back there, though they'd probably extend upward enough to completely cover the window stowage area. Aside from that, I think this would be a great solution.

I AM CURRENTLY INSTALLING AN ECLIPSE 10 INCH SUB IN MY LANCHE. I AM HAVING A FIBERGLASS MOLD MADE OF MY CONSOLE WHERE I STILL HAVE MY REAR A.C. YOU DO LOSE THE STORAGE FROM THE CONSOLE, BUT A SMALL SACRIFICE TO MAKE, CONSIDERING ALL THE STORAGE YOU ALREADY HAVE.
