Ok, I decided to hold off on getting aftermarket rims for now and get a hole cut in the roof of my AV... I got what I think is a fair price installed, $1206.01 out the door... that is for a ASC 925VSS 37"x19" has all the options that the factory unit has, plus "auto-close" meaning that when I shut off the truck, the sunroof will automaticly close.... (has a button to over-ride this as well)

1) Does this price seem fair?
2) Anyone have and problems with atfermarket sunroofs? (that were cut in the AV... not in a pickuptruck 10 years ago)
3) anyone have any input on things to watch out for, or possible issues with having this done

I am going to be doing this very soon... so any info you can provide would be greatly appreciated.... I have never owned a vehicle with a sunroof before....

I've done a bit of research on this as well. That price sounds great. The only thing now is to look at who ever is going to do the install. See if you can talk to someone who has one installed by your installer. Otherwise, it sounds like a good deal.

that price is from the dealer I bought my AV from, so who ever installs it will have installed a few of them....I was told this price was "better then normal" but how many times have you been told that by a dealer?

That is almost the same price that was quoted to me by a local installer. He also does installs for dealers in the area. His brand sun-roof was Hollandia and had the same features of yours. I was also thinking of getting the double sunroof (one front and back) but didn't know if that would interfere with my roof rack. (they don't go into the headliner when retracted)

Another question...

Anyone have an aftermarket sunroof installed who has the 03 Factory DVD?????

just wondering what kind of problems I may run into...

Hey that's cool. The wife and I talked last week about getting one. I am not sure it will happen, but it's out there. That sounds like a good price. What is the warranty on the dealer installed sun roof. I can't wait to see how they finished the headliner. If anything I will trade you my headliner for yours + DVD >:D. Mike.

Hey Grey -

Are you in Southern California? I think I had my sunroof done at ASC back in 2001 on my Sierra. They were in Santa Ana (Orange County). I was just there a few months ago to have it serviced (truck now sold after I got my AV). I paid supposedly dealer cost $900, plus tax so total was around $980.

If this is the same place let me know, I have info on a better place in Huntington Beach..........

Mike

mikemak,

I am in AZ...... I am just guessing, but I think the dealer here has them installed through Classic Soft Trim
http://www.classicsofttrim.com/sunroofs.html

but don't know for sure....

My advice for whatever its worth. Find out where the dealers send jobs to and go there yourself. Tell them your salesman told you they would give you dealer cost. That's what I did (but it was true).

Best of luck.

Hey Grey ,

I had that exact same model put in my 2002....back almost 2 years ago....I had the truck about 4 months when I got it...

I have not had one problem from it at all...I also had this same place but that sunroof in my 96 Tahoe awhile back...I think as long as they do a good job installing it...which they will...because I don't think ASC will let just anywhere sell and install there sunroofs.....

I think you will enjoy it alot,I know I do ;D

would you mind checking something for me on yours?

I have basically 15" between the overhead cubby and the dvd... how far from the cubby to the backside of the sunroof hole??

I am begining to think this will not work.... :C:

I dunno I think it would work...I just measured mine and it is 16.5 inches...

BUT..They did move my little short overhead console forward a few inches too..so I am sure they could do that to yours too..that makes a big difference in space and you can't tell it was moved forward at all... ;D

Anymore questions don't hesistate to ask me :)

I could post some pics too if they would help you.

for what it is worth... i read some time ago that the roof is the only body part that is not galvanized .... unless you have the factory sunroof, then it was galvanized also. I have to think there is good logic for this detail and I for one would only want it if I could get it from the factory.
I have had 2 Av's .. 1 w/ the sunroof and 1 w/out.
The sunroof is a nice extra, I wish I still had it.
Good luck.

No clue, but will they put in drain holes if there isnt any there?

Yes they do put in drains for the sunroof..they are tubes that run out the water :)Just like the factory has :)

I think the main thing is getting a ASC dealer...since GM uses ASC sunroofs in the factory trucks :)

I will put in my two cents....for what it is worth.

I personally have issues with the air deflector. If going slower, between 20-30 the air deflecter is not strong ehough and presses back slightly causing air to enter the cabin, and some serious back pressure and I need to crack the back windows to relieve the pressure and noise until I pick up speed. I think the air flow is different at higher speeds so it isn't a problem. As you look at it, you can see the roof vibrating/flexing behind the sunroof. This is a factory installed one, I would hope on a newer one the air deflecter would be better, but if not something to keep in mind with your DVD....

I always wanted to do a full sliding ragtop sunroof that would open the entire roof. I just am afraid to because of the loos of the roof support cross beams and the fact you break into it so easy. But I could use the roof basket I am going to custom make to reinforce the roof... Since the basket would cover the sliding cover, you would not have to worry about anyone cuting the top to get in. Just would kind of suck to slide the top back and have the big rack blocking your view.

Hey Robert

I had that problem with the Tahoe that I had...but with the Avalanche,I don't even need a deflector at all..no noise at all...The guy at the Sunroof place said it really just depends on the vehicle itself..some make more noise than others..

When you open your sunroof you don't open the entire glass *ALL* the way back do you..??..I think it helps this if you leave it where you can see about 3 or 4 inches of the glass....they made mine where it will not open all the way and that's why I don't have any wind buffering..

Hope this helps you :)

That would be very cool,I have seen some in Truckin like that, in Tahoes I think.... (y)

ok I have gotten quotes on ASC, Webasto, and Midwest... I know that both ASC and Wabasto make good products... but I have never heard of Midwest.... anyone have any input on any of these manufacturers..?

Grey

ok, I was up at the chevy dealer today talking with the accessories rep, who also owns and AV, he said that the ASC is a better fit for the AV then the webasto, he showed me a list of vehicles and what unit was recomended, and on the siverado, thewebasto is recomended, but the AV is ASC.... also a local member told me he may be able to get me a unit installed for between $700-$800, but is unsure which brand and other details, said he would get back to me this week.

Also the dealer told me that they would give me a loaner while my AV underwent surgery, so I would not be without a vehicle while having this mod done...

I went from pumped that I would get this done in a week, to a week of looking at all the units availble and getting more confused.... ugh.... but I know that whatever unit I get I will be happy with it, so now it is just a matter of webasto vs asc and letting go of some cash....

Grey

I have an ASC installed in my AV. I believe you and I have already shared email regarding this matter. If you have any additional questions please PM me or send me an email.

Good luck and take pics if you can.
