3 times to the dealer and each time they say the tailgate is not shutting tight. Grrrrrrrrr, its not my tailgate, all 3 panels are dripping wet inside after a rain.

Their solution(after putting a mechanic with a flashlight in the pick-up bed and drenching the 3 cargo panels) is to order an entire set of gaskets for the three cargo panels as well as the side drainage system. Parts should arrive at dealer in a week for a 4th overnight of repair.

Any experience among the members on this?

Welcome to the board Sandy, Your going to have a lot of fun here. Not to mention spend a lot of money when you see all the fun stuff we do to our Avs (AKA, MOD FEVER)

There are a lot of posts on this subject, do a search on leaks or something and you'll have a lot to read about.

If I remember right most of the problems were on earlier model 2002 Avs so they should be able to fix the problem.

Good luck!! (y)

Which kind of panels did you have?

Did you have the ones with large numbers molded on the inside or the one with the numbers molded in small squares on the tops side? (Along with large numbers moulded on the bottom side.)

There was a design change and different seals in later build dates.

The new style gaskets would solve the problem but I would rather have the new style panels. (Mine were switched out.)

They are also slightly wider and seem to be more resistant to sagging.

My numbers are inside squares on the top side (also have green paper stickers on the bottom that identify the mfg. date as Sept 16, 2001)

Are mine the new or old panels? Thanks

Sandy, next time you're at the dealer, look at the underside of the cargo panels on one of their newer AVs. There's a plastic "gutter" under the area that seals meet (Along the trailing edges of #1 and #2 panels) that help to carry any leakage you get in this area out to the outer drain troughs. When I was shopping for my Av, I saw one with a 12/01 build date that didn't have this piece. My Av, with a 02/02 build date does. The service manager at my dealership thought he remembered this being a modification made to the panels seals in early 2002.

I know this doesn't answer all of your leakage problems. If their #4 attempt at repairs doesn't fix your leaks, I'd definitely bug the dealer for a new set of panels.

I suggest you also search on here for this topic.....it has been discussed many times....most popint to the older panel designs....yet I have these and do not have leaks

They are the old style. The new ones have the small squares on the top sides.

These sound like the same panels that are on my 12/01 built Av. I was told that the old panels the numbers were indented in the top and the new panels have the numbers inside a small square and the numbers themselves protrude. Mine match this last definition with the green labels also. Not a leak by the way. Mine used to leak until it was brought to my attention that the manual states that you are to latch the drivers side latch (left side) first then the right side on each panel. Ever since doing it "by the book" I have been through two monsoons and many garden hose washes without nary a leak. Good luck. :B:
