Come on out for some fun in beautiful Alpine Helen, GA!? We are working on some plans but you know there will be modding, tubing the Hooch, and great food!!!? This is my first attempt at a GTG and Ralph is helping out so I'd love to make it a great one!

Hotel info: Hampton Inn in Helen @ 147 Unicoi Street Helen, GA 30545 706-878-3310 Fax: 706-878-3566 has set aside a block of rooms for us.? Call and ask for the Avalanche Club block of rooms.

Friday night, Dinner at Paul's on the River.  They have a little of everything including a Prime Rib buffet for around $20 a person, saw that advertised today.  Remainder of Friday night is renewing friendships, possibly making new ones and maybe just a general good time.  If someone wants to bring Poker stuff, then go for it!!!

Saturday, Breakfast at Hofer's at 8.  Ralph says this works best with him for our large group.  And who wants to eat breakfast late in the morning anyway?!?!?!  Kinda' defeats the purpose!
After that we'll move to the modding and general mayhem associated with that and probably any tubing that we want to get done.  River was a little low today, but we did get some rain so there is a possibility that it will be up a little more.  There were several people tubing today.  Some even my size!
Then from 10 - 2 Ralph has graciously gotten the Helen City pavillion reserved for us which sits on the river and has a kitchen and tables and fans and things like that for our Saturday lunch cookout and modding!  If everyone could help out by bringing something, I think I've got the burgers and dogs taken care of!  Then we move to our little cruise up to Brasstown Bald the highest point in GA.  Very scenic drive and views from the mountain top and a great photo op for Av's!
From there we mosey on over to the Deer Lodge for dinner.  Expect to wait a little while.  Owner doesn't do reservations, out of town checks, or credit or debit cards.  BE SURE TO HAVE SOME CASH FOR THIS MEAL.  Huge steaks (hang off the plate) and baked potatos are huge, freshly-cut fries, a very nice trout, country ham, etc....  After that we head back down to Helen for some more modding, talking, and for those that would like to go, I've promised my kids some mini-golf, so I'll be glad to supervise if you guys need/want me to do that.  We can also do some more of Helen at night.  It's a lot of fun to just window shop and for some even more fun to buy things!

List updated.

Helen is about 90 miles NE of Atlanta.  Go to ATL, take 85 north to I-985, it changes into Hwy 365, follow it to Hwy 384 (AKA Duncan Bridge Road) N, follow it to the end, turn right and you'll be there in about 3 minutes!

Lots of good info on those links Eric provided. Are yall staying in cabins? What's everyone's lodging situation looking like? Figured I'd go ahead and plan now.

Steve

Most of us stayed at the Hampton Inn in Helen last year.  Reasonable rates, close to Hofer's.  That's probably where I will be staying again.

As much as I'd like to take credit for the links, that was Ralph who put those up!  Still, good info and glad you got to check it out.  Hampton Inn was good for those folks that came over.

oops....where's my glasses? Sorry bout that Ralph! Bad news though...I checked through Expedia and there are no rooms available at the Hampton Inn on that weekend. According to Expedia, only place with rooms available (in that area-I typed in Helen, GA.) is the Econolodge  :needhug:

You know what would REALLY be kewl.....if we could actually go tubing this time.

Eric, start drinking LOTS of water now...

I know Dawn and family were able to get a little tubing in on the day we left, but I think it was more.......float a little, pick up tube and walk a while, float a little, pick up tube and walk awhile, float a little.......................

That's our reasoning for having it earlier in the summer.  If the water in the Hooch will be up, June is the time!

Way down yonder on the Chattahoochee.....
