This is the reason why I do not drive to Wal-mart, Grocery stores and the movies in my AV. This week I only drove the AV 15 miles and look what happend. My wife said that is what I get for being SO protective :7:
But the main thing is I do not go any where. I guess it was a rock or something all I know is that I'm PISST.

WOW! That's not what anyone deserves for being protective of their investment(s)! Rusty and I would be having a stroke... :C:

I hope you get it fixed without too much pain and frustration. Really sorry to see that. I hate to see a dent in any vehicle that is well cared for. :6:

Ouch, it looks almost like a bullet hole in the pic.
My first thought was a nice round BB from an air gun. A bullet, even a .22, would likely go through.

I feel your pain. I have the twin to that one.

I have a friend whose pickups whole side was riddled with this style dents. Must have been 20+ deep dents. He told me that he was at a stop light and a Camaro pulled on the shoulder next to him and then took a right gunning it which kicked up a rock shower that swept his truck from the tail to the front door. He never caught the sucker... :8:

Nasty dent!

I feel your pain.... What starts out new doesn't seem to stay that way long :6:

Hope you're able to get it repaired with out too much hastle.

I HAD a twin to that one...I found it on my driver's front door when I went to pick up my truck from the Auto Detail Shop. :7: :8: They paid to have it fixed (after a bit of pushing :E: ). I had my dealership's paintless dent guy work it over. $45 later, you'd never know it happened! :)

The dent looks like the kind that might be able to be 'popped' out using the dry ice technique... read the old thread burried in these forums somewhere...

I counld not find it during a forum search so here is what I found on the net regardibg dry ice methods"

For small dings and dents, a process of heat and extreme cold may force the dent out on its own. Heat the dent with a specialized tool or blow dryer. Once its heated, apply dry ice directly on to the dents surface. The dent should pop out.

NOTE: Dry ice can cause damage to skin instantly. Always wear gloves when handling dry ice.

has anyone tried one of these? What do you think?

I picked one up tonight... have a few minor dings to remove.

I'll post reviews after I've tried it out.

Wow! That sucks.. I do feel your pain, I just had the right front fender replaced on Blanche and had to take her back to the dealer's body shop to buff out the rough spots. They also included a detail job for the inconvience.
When I brought Blanche home, I grabbed my Zaino
Z-6 Gloss Enhancer and started to go to work. When I got to the newly replaced fender BAMB... That's when I noticed a small dent. I thought it was perhaps a defect in the paint job, however when I took her back to the dealer's body guy, he said it was a dent.
I'm suppose to set up an appointment to take her back to have their paintless dent remover guy smoothe out the dent, although I haven't done so yet!
I paid cash for Blanche... Am I over protective of her???

"PERHAPS NOT ENOUGH!"

Rita

Just what I was thinking! You don't suspose that someone knocked your bike over then picked it back up do you? A dent that deep, you would have heard if you were driving the Av!

Well, as usual...I open my big mouth, and guess what happened? That's right, stroke time! :E: :8: :7: :C:

Seems that someone really disliked our AV, and ran a key or some type of semi-sharp object down the passenger side! :E: :7: :C: :6: Starts at the front of the cladding, then up into the paint, all the way to the back quarter panel. Got some of it rubbed out, but the back door will have to be repaired, that part is deep, and of course the cladding is scratched. :E:

Be careful out there, no one is safe from careless, spiteful people. :6:

Must be dent season. I picked one up on my left front fender just above the front edge of the wheel arch. Looks like someone let a carriage fly down the hill at the grocery store and it caught just above the cladding - figures. :C:

Well it evens up the left with the right side. The right side has some paint chips on the rear door where the salt truck got me last winter. Maybe I will go over to the body shop and get the dent out. I will probably do the chip repair. :cautious: :p

:-[ Roland I am sorry to see that ding on your AV, I don't think you are too protective, I am the same way with my AV. I hope you will be able to take care of it without any hassle :cautious: I feel for you my friend.

I am really sorry to hear of the crime done to you. I hope your insurance will cover the damages.

Thanks Irontrain! ;)

We have a really good paint and body guy, and I think he will cut us a deal, so we won't have to claim it on our insurance. Thank goodness the scratch isn't down to the metal.

I am going to try to 'hide' the scratch on the cladding. There was some really great info in the cladding care thread. That is what makes this place so great! (y)

Same scenario here....Someone shoved a snickers bar down my gas door :7: :8: The protective flap kept it from going any further (y) I better not catch that guy because he wont have a protective flap to prevent it from where its going!

My last vehicle was a VW New Bug - got one of the first in Dallas, driving it was a sensation, and I babied the hell out of it. First dent and I almost died.

Traded it for the AV and the first time I had the AV out (still with paper plates) I gave it a Texas cedar pinstripe while we stuck my buddy's Disco. One of the best times I ever had and was glad to get it out of my system. My wife took one look, rolled her eyes, and said "Now, you know, if I had done that . . . ."

I love trucks.

Are you too protective? Of course not. Too protective is hiring someone to guard it while it is parked for the night. Hmm, come to think about it, I do park mine under the security camera's at night. Oh, wait a second, that's only to give the people watching the monitors something good to look at!

Ok, I've got one. Too protective is when you seriously ask a police officer if you can file assault charges on someone that touches the Av..........Hmm, nevermind that one also.

Come to think of it, I don't think you can be too protective over a truck like this.

Personally, the dent looks like it was caused by the bike. Watch out with the dent repair though. You might want to consider getting a 2nd opinion on the repairs from an aftermarket show-car shop. I had the GM repair folks try to tell me that the small piece of flair that my Av decided to pick up was a $530 repair. Took it to get a 2nd quote and was told that it could be taken care of for $20 and 10 minutes from the non-paint dent guy. They happen to also do a much better job then the GM guys. My $0.02
