Amp Noise

Hi guys,

I looked through the past stuff and didn't seem to find my exact problem.. I have a rockford power 500db amp for my subs. Since I installed it I seem to get a high pitched noise out of it now and then. I thought it might have been the way that I installed it, so i went back, ran a new 4 gauge ground line right to it, and tightened everything else up, still comes back. I can actually push down on the amp and it will go away, sometimes i can move the ground wire a little bit and it will go away as well, I think that i have the ground nice and tight, as it was happening when i ran from the ground block that i have installed and there is never been any noise from the other amp i have.

So any suggestions on what to try to get rid of the noise, oh yeah it is not tied to the alternator at all, so when i hit the gas it dosen't change, just a constant high pitch annoying noise. :cautious:

Thanks!!!!!

You mentioned the Ground Wire, but You didn't mention How long it was. I've always heard the shorter the better, IE <= 1ft in length.

The ground cable is about 2 feet long, it is atached under the rear driver side door moulding and run right over to the amp which is mounted under the read drivers side seat. I will take some pics of how it is installed and post em today.

thanks

You're just gonn ahave to mess with a couple different locations to ground to. There are about 7-8 good locations where the rear bench bolts to the floor. I would just test out a few different ground until it goes away.
If that doesn't help then what about how your HU is grounded?
Do you have your RCA's apart from your power & ground wires? Are you using decent quality RCA's?

Thankss Zimm, I will try moving the ground around today, the HU is grounded behind the dash and i have monster rca's run on opposite sides as the power wires.. The thing that confuses me is that the 4 channel rockford i have for the speakers runs off of the ground block i have under the rear seats, and i have no noise on that amp. The second amp, wether attached to the ground block, or with it's own ground is still making noise... I will try playing with the ground location at lunch and see what happens...

Thanks!

Sjw is it a brand new amp or was it from a previous install. If new return it for a replacement. The reason I say this is, I bought two Orion amps one for my mids and highs and one for my subs. The amp for my mids and highs went in with out a problem, but the amp for my subs kept giving me a nice high pitch whine. I tried a ton of ground points even ran to the frame of the car but still that dam whine. The whine would go away if I pressed the on rca's. Now I know this is a different problem, but once I returned the amp and got a replacement away went the whine.
Good Luck

I am starting to think that it might be the amp. It is brand new. I just went out to take a couple pics of it and no noise.. Now there was noise on the way into work this morning, I have not moved the Av and now no noise.. Being so random it seems there might be something wrong with it?

Anyway here is a pic of the amp installed and the ground point.

I got in touch with Rockford and that it was a bad power supply  in the amp it self. So I am sending it back for a replacement.

I guess I had everything done correctly (y)

Thanks for all the suggestions.
