I know there is another long thread about the Denali/Escalade trip computer, however, I couldn't find a way to install this one and still keep a factory look so after a bit of research I found a trip computer that goes in the 2000 Blazer, Astro and Safari (and probably others) that is mounted in the OHC.
You will need to swap your OHC with the long console found on the pre '98 Chev/GMC, these are easily found on Ebay for about $50.00 to $75.00 or for those that have the sunroof you will need the one for the Blazer w/ sunroof which is the short version. The trip computer you can get from your favorite Chev/Gmc dealer for around $210.00 (cost plus 10% or I have also seen these on Ebay).
Though this one does not have as many features as the one found on the Escalade, it has a built in compass, outside temperature, used fuel , average MPG, instant MPG, range and average MPH and the best part that I like is that when installed no one can tell it's not a factory option.
My total cost was around $300.00 including the trip comp., the harness, the used console which I got at Ebay and the fabric to recover the console. Installation time around 2 hours.
