Antenna snapped off

The antenna on my truck looks to be snapped off at the base.? My question:? Does the mast have a male or female end on the bottom when it is unscrewed.?

If the mast normally has a male end, then I think I could use "easy-outs" to take the last piece of the mast out of the base.

I guess I could just order a new antenna and see what kind of end is on it, but that would be too easy.

Thanks

The mast is a female base.

Just to clarify, the antenna screws onto the truck, and doesn't screw into the truck.

Ouch, I guess I need a new base then.  Anyone know the part number on that?

Snapped mine off on my '02 AV years ago. I removed the 3 screws from base mount, yanked the base off the short cable. Pulled the new one off it's cable and crimped it on the existing cable, put the 3 screws back. Didn't have to take anything apart. Wasn't hard to get the broken piece out of the mast.

I don't have the mast, so I have to get one of those as well.  Where did you find the new base?

try gmpartsdirect.com   I think these are correct part numbers

Base 15074562?

Mast 15087886

Try a junk yard first, you might be able to get one cheap that matches from lots of GM vehicles

Or, this is a good opportunity to try something different. ???

My antenna was broke off by some pos.

I went to gmpartsdirect and entered the 15074562 part number.  It was changed to 15829166 when placed into the shopping cart.  I guessed that the part has been upgraded, but does it still work with a 2002 Av?

That's what I'm afraid of one day some idiot grabbing it and bending or snapping it off. I think it's time for a hidden antenna mode.

The part I need is the cable that connects under the dash from the connection after the radio all the way to the base.  Does the part also have the bracket that houses the antenna?  Does anyone have a picture?

Part numbers change all the time, the '07 base mounts in a different spot due to body changes and a change in the cowl/plennum cover but it looks the same to me, still 3 screws in same pattern.

Hidden antenna mod you can crimp any base/w antenna that fits it on the existing cable.

The base (male end) is crimped on the RF cable that runs part way to the radio, plugs under dash to the cable going to the radio. I took the 3 screws out, pulled the base mount off both cables and crimped the new one on mine. Took about one minute.

So if I just go with the GM PART # 15829166 I should be fine. I just want to make sure that the part has the base (male end) which the antenna screws into.  I like you idea.....

FYI, I do not want the hidden antenna mod.

I could swap my '94 S10 and '04 AV antennas, different base but bases have same male end fittings.

Hey Flint,

Is this picture for the GM Part# 15829166 if so, that is exactly what I need.

I hope this is the part that corresponds to the GM Part# 15829166 because I need to order soon as possible.  Thanks :B:

Yes.  That is the same thing I ordered.  I installed it yesterday.  I couldn't get the old one out of the firewall so I ran it behind the fender and behind the door to the dash.  I didn't want to take the whole dash apart to get to it so i just reached through the glove box to get to the connections.  I'll do it right when I have more time.  Good news is I have reception.

Excellent, I just ordered it.  :D

Now I just have to wait for the delivery truck to show up and maybe even have the driver help with the install. :kidding:

You mean I did it wrong twisting the base mounts off the cables and switching them  :p
It's just like a cable TV connector, you have to be careful not to damage it if you want to reuse it.

:D? No.?I didn't mean that.? I pulled the old one off with ease, but the new one didn't come off as easily.? I then decided I didn't want to screw it up and have two non-working bases although I liked your idea.

I think I used vise grips to hold the cable, not so tight as to crush it or even leave a mark. Mine broke years ago, the new one might not be crimped on the same way as the old ones. I did mine by accident really, I tried to just yank the old one out and the base came off  :D
