I've been looking at the Avalanches for a while. Took one for a test drive and made up my mind to buy one. I feel like I've fallen into a shark tank whenever I walk onto the Chevy lot. Things sure have changed since I bought my last truck. Any tips for dealing with the salesmen? When they start with the pressure I walk off the lot. I find a big difference in prices for the same options on the same Avalanches at different dealers.

Ask for a GM in the Driveway authorization number from a member and you won't have to worry about haggling with a dealer. The prices are fixed and all incentives can be added. Some have been able to haggle a deal a little bit better, but you'll end up having to haggle with the dealer.

Yes, I agree. If you don't like the haggling the GM in the Driveway is the way to go! You'll get a good no-haggle price.

(y)As stated before, if you don't have the driveway... always work a deal towards the end of the month. My wife works at a chevy dealer costing the deals, and she gives me little tid bits of info on how salesmen work. Alway never talk trade in until after your agreed deal on the new vehicle. They may get alittle miffed but hey you should be in the drivers seat. At the end of the month GM will give dealerships incentives for most cars sold. That is why dealers will agree to a better deal. ALSO when you go into the Finance managers office(the guy/gal who finishes your paperwork). You can walk away if you feel the deal isn't real!! Iv'e done that before and man did my salesman start groveling trying to get the deal done Get the invoice pricing and go with it GOOD LUCK

If for some reason you can't score a GM Certificate, do not, I repeat: DO NOT go to the dealer lot to buy. When I bought my Avalanche I had quoted three other trucks and they all were quoted through the dealers website at, or below, invoice and ranged from $6K to $9K off MSRP, plus most of them were willing to waive dealer prep, destination, etc. I don't know why but the internet sales guys are a whole lot more aggressive with their pricing than the lot jockeys.

As an example, mine stickered for $43,500 and I got it out the door with taxes, etc and no coin down for $35,500. Not the all time greatest deal ever but I'm happy with it. (y) (y) (y)

Just go to www.chevrolet.com. locate your vehicle, click "Request a Quote" and see what happens........

I'm sure you can get a GM in the driveway certificate. There are many members here that can and would be happy to give you one. 805engineer gave me mine. ;) :B:

I usually go to www.edmunds.com and gather up the dealer cost of the vehicle with options then decide how much of a percentage over dealer cost I think is acceptable.

Go to the salesman with your Edmunds paperwork so he knows that *you* know what the Av costs. If you're as clued into the price as much or more than he is, you're in a much better position and you can be confident in the offer being made.

My rule of thumb is:

If you go to the lot and haggle, you didn't get the best deal unless the salesman had to chase you down in the parking lot (y)

I never buy cars in person anymore. My time is too precious to sit with the salesman and play games. "Oh gee, let me go ask the manager." Gimme a break! :2: :p

Go to Edmunds, pick and configure the vehicle you want, learn the prices and decide what you're willing to pay, learn about all the incentives available, then select the option for dealers to send you prices by email. Once the prices start coming in, you just beat them down, one by one. I'm doing it that way for my wife's next vehicle.

You can also do it all over the phone. I bought both of my Avs that way. Call around, get to the point and tell them they have the sale TODAY, RIGHT NOW, if they will give you your price. Don't play around. Get to the point, get it done, and close the deal. If they know you mean business, they will act. If they won't deal for the price you want, well then they've lost the sale. I deal in very frank terms with them and I'm very direct. Can you tell? ;D

Don't even talk to the salesman. I went straight to the sales manager, told him I'm not here to play games. We sat at his desk he brougt up the inventory on his computer, had it set so I could see it all. We did the whole process in his office in less than 20 min including finacne rates. That included negotiaing my trade. He then had 2 salesman bring up the 2 trucks so we could decide color. They washed it, we left, total time 1hr 15min.
